I'm tempted to get a private plate...

Really struggling with ideas though - any good sites which will generate them for you?

Most I've looked on have been pants...

First decide what sort of thing you want, ie a particular plate with your initials, something non-specific oe a 'prestige number'. Then have a look at a number of the sites (the same plates often appear on several, and a lot of places are part-time home run businesses)) and see if the asking price is within your budget (bear in mind that plates are often vastly overpriced), so take your time looking and comparing.

I'd been looking for a plate for a while, and came across one that suited, but it was priced at £2k, which I thought stupidly overpriced, £500 was the max I'd pay. I phoned the up, offered £400, which the refused. 3 weeks later they phoned back, said they'd take £650, and negotiated down to £450. Its a UK plate K8 xxx where the xxx is my daughter Kate's initials.

got mine from national numbers, make your own plate, go for your name! not clk merc ect... no good if you get a new car

The government one at http://www.dvla-som.co.uk/home/ is the cheapest.

The dvla site starts at £250 for example a plate like, R1 ABC. That includes your transfer fees etc. A lot of the other sites advertise the same numbers for around £190 or £200 but fees are not included, currently around £80, so DVLA is cheapest.

I would also use the DVLA, although I have dabbled privately for plates.

Own a selection now and all of them I have enjoyed on cars and the value has increased.

I spoted a Merc the other day with C180 XX where XX is your initals (C18 OXX) I guess you could look at something similar if you like that sort of idea?

Initials probably best or a name that suits your hobbies etc.
