Soft top remote operation

The other day showing my new CLK 240 2004 convertible to one of my friends, I opened and closed the soft top via the remote control pointing to the door handle sensor as per instructions, but that was the only time it has worked!!. I've been trying again and again unsuccessfuly. What do you think is the problem?

Could be dirty sensor on the door handle, or battery to weak in the remote.

Guess what thefast1.... your suggestion worked!. well..... partially.

I changed the batteries (6 pounds) and nothing happened and then I cleaned the surface of the infrared sensor and it worked!!.
