yes absolutly, children are the most precious things. my experiences last thursday will make me more corsious in future. and if only you all could actually see a demonstration of thursday then you'd all understand the case. As you all cant see this then i close all thread now.

I have an C43 AMG with front end damage and going to be breaking or selling as it is.
i have had a few PM's today regaurding parts and if i decide to break it then first come first served. PM's are dated and time stamped.

Joby.

well he has stated his side and others have stated theirs. when my car got hit an assesor came to see it. he wrote it off, paid me off but they still left the car with me and i took it to the brakers myself after a week.
took the assesor about 1 week to come and have a look though.
let us stop attacking him viciously please.
he is in pain.

i suspect you would have had better repsonses if you had not posted conflicting versions of events.

no offense was intended, i'm sure by all, but it has come across as fishy and i'm still on the fence with this one....

take more care in your next car

If you read your first post it does say that hit a stationary car
and I cant see how that can be anyone elses fault but your own

That said you maybe right

But people are going to get a bit anoyed if they think that you are being economical with the truth.

Anyway why not get it repaired ? I hope it doesnt get broke for spares

Repair it.

A pair of headlights, front grille, bonnet, front panel x-member - all the same as any old 202, there's a bloke on here breaking a red C280, I've got a pair of late 202 headlights and a rad pack off a CLK55 (same as C43) and a C43 front bumper which will go again, all you'll need is a drivers airbag and you're back on the road.

The vultures are circling :)

Did you get my PM about the side skirts Blackbeast?

When this thread first started I suggested this might be an advert for selling a wrecked car, to date I have seen nothing to convince me otherwise? Hopefully no one has been verbally abusive and honest opinions have been exchanged?

Who is the lawful owner? I believe blackbeast, but when was the category C certificate issued? Would an HPI check show this information and that would help clarify a few major points of fact?

You're ruthless...:D

OK, if I've offended you or criticised you without knowing the facts then i'm sorry

Your repairer/insurance company are pretty effeicient to say the least but as you said the garage had the car at the weekend I suppose they had time to do the assessment and all the other paperwork then deliver the car back to you today

I wish my local garages were half as good as that

Just one last thing though (in true Columbo fashion:))

If the garage had the car at the weekend how come you managed to take a picture of it on Sunday evening using your sony phone at just before 6pm?

Don't forget that unless the car goes to the insurance companies designated body-shop, they will insist on the vehicle being examined by their nominated insurance assessor. This person has a busy schedule and will just add the car to the list of jobs they have in hand.

Could you please let us know the name of this insurance company that conducts all its claims by telephone calls as four weeks ago my nephew wrote off his beautiful Jaguar coupe and he has still not been reimbursed.

I spoke to him last night about your claim :o ;) and it made him smile!!

Here we go again...reading way too far into someones misery and making it worse foe them...

Blackbeast.. sorry about whats happened... some of the members on here always take it upon themselves to rip holes in anyones story... i think if i ever crashed a car, i would never post about it on here!

I think i understand what happened, you could not be on the right side of the road due to parked cars, you didnt see the bloke and he shouldnt really have been on that side..
Its fair enough...

to me it also looks a little more than 25mph worth of damage, but i also wouldnt say if i was speeding on an open forum!

Sorry about the loss and im sure you will find another replacement soon enough.. i think you are better to break it... good C43 gearboxes fetch a fortune.. engines too... you will make much more by selling the bits.

Good luck matey and ignore the synics on here.. they werent there, dont have all the details and can be quite rude at times...

i feel a little ashamed of my beloved club at the moment..

In one way, I can agree with jaymanek's post - I am sure the OP didn't expect to get this kind of follow up on his post and we always like to think of ouselves as a friendly forum.

But, on the other hand, I like to think of this forum as being like we are all down the pub (but without the beer). If I was sitting in a group in the pub and someone new came to join us but then told this story, I would struggle to sit there and sympathise with him. I would, in fact, feel compelled to point out that there were a number of aspects to the account of events that didn't stack up - perhaps most important of which is the aspect of blame.

If I have misinterpreted the story as told by the OP, I would welcome clarification but the facts all seem to be there.

If the OP came here for a sympathetic ear, he would have been more likely to get one if he had entitled his post "Just smashed my C43 into a stationary vehicle". It is often said that "we all make mistakes" and I have noticed on this forum how often that sentiment is passed on together with sympathy, understanding and genuine help and support to new and old members alike. However, as a precursor to this, a little honesty in the telling of the tale is a good starting point.

Perhpas I could comment. The airbags only operate if an impact measuring more than 4gs has been achieved. To achieve such an impact, the closing speed would be a lot more than 10mph for starters. Given that. if the car truly had been involved in an accident that triggered the airbags, it is conceivable that it would have sustained enough damage to be declared a write-off. As a rider, I'd state that a car can be written off without the airbags being triggered.

But an insurance assessor will want to look at the car at a repairer nominated either by the insurance company or (if the owner is sensible) at an approved Mercedes repair outfit.

The repairer provides their own estimate which is generally available on-line for the insurance assessor to review too. But in ALL CASES, the assessor will have to inspect the vehicle. His inspection might only be enough to confirm that the repairer's estimate is correct, but he HAS to inspect it in order to write his report and then, and only then, will the insurance company take his recommendation to formally write-off the vehicle.

The insurance company then contacts the owner, informs them the car is written-off and then starts the game of them offering the owner the book price (CAP of course) for the car. As I understand it, the owner might expect a maximum of 3 offers, but don't quote me on that.

This whole process from repairer estimate through to assesor report can take some time. The repairer needs to allocate "ramp time" and then to prepare his estimate and the assessor then needs to be booked in and to complete his report.

I'd anticipate a minimum elapsed time of 2 weeks at the very best, but I have heard of situations where the insurance companies involved discuss blame and sort out the practicalities of "knock for knock".

This place can definitely be Moral Superiority Club UK from time to time.

Just because people happen to differ in opinion and defend their position as strongly as those of other beliefs, doesn't mean that they offer their opinions out of any feeling of superiority or self-righteousness. It's a bit too easy to dismiss such differing beliefs in that way and it certainly is not what I would call a factual argument.
