I want to upgrade the sound system in my car, I’m not talking about neon lights and subs!

I want to take out the stock CD player and the stock speakers and replace them with more ‘beefer’ speakers. I don’t want anything new to be visible I want it to all go into the original speaker places.

Any ideas? How many speakers does the w202 even have? What sizes am I looking at?

Thanks

P.S. the w202 is DONE (it took 62 Days in total lol) will be posting very soon...

Speaker locations depend on model (and age). On mine there are:

Tweeters in the dash
Speakers in the front doors
Speakers in the rear doors
Speakers on the rear shelf (which I think the earlier models dont have)

Changed my front door speakers for JBL power series 5 1/4" and the ones in the rear shelf for Infinities (chucked the box can't remember model). Put an amp and a 10" sub in the boot (amp runs the sub and the front speakers). Sounds nice, almost as good as the system in the C70! :D Let me know if you want to come check it out, I'll be in London for the rest of this week......

"earlier models"... hmmm, my pre-facelift has 4 holes (2 per side) on the rear shelf, but only two speakers. But on a side note, I'm not able to fit standard speakers from halfords, had to use adapter rings. Iyse knows something about this, you might want to try pming him, he has measurements and everything... He changed his speakers about 3 weeks ago.
Spinal

I remember the difference now, I think the facelift only has 2 holes in the rear shelf rather than the 4 on pre facelift......

I think the rear shelf is the same on all models regardless of age :)

I think from the factory you're only ever going to get one speaker either side at most, but still 4 holes total.

I have 4 holes on the rear shelf, nopne are used as this helps the venting for the subs!

back to the original question reg sound upgrade

replace the fronts with any 6" (they will fit)

fit some 5\1/4 in the rear doors, and put 2 subs in the back, also replace the tweeters in the standard location, re-wire the lot to 2 amps in the back (1 for the speakers and 1 for the subs) and now you have a killer stealth sound system.

product wise it all depends what you want to spend, best go to www.talkaudio.co.uk for advice on speakers\headunits\amps etc! as theres new stuff out all the time

Sorry for the late reply ppl, been unexpectedly busy!

Just quickly ran out to the garage (its like 2c here) and took sum pics of the boot, to see what’s with these holes in the rear shelf.

The pics are pretty stupid; because I didn’t even bother looking just used the camera and came back…

Okay I can make out that there to holes, but what the hells that black thing in the middle of them? Looks like a speaker to me? What’d u think?
