Spacer setup, square, wider front, wider rear?

Hi guys,

Looking at putting some spacers on my car for the first time.

I’ve been advised that going with a square setup (same size on both axles is best). Going wider on the rear is the next best option and not to go wider on the front than the rear.

Just wondered what everyone’s thoughts are on this?

It looks like my fronts could be pushed out further than my rears, but going wider on the front than the back sounds like a no go!

If this is case, i’ll have to push the rears out as much as I can and match the fronts.

Thoughts please...

It depends on the car. I've got 10mm both ends but I've also got different offsets both ends. It definitely does wo der for the looks of a car.

I should add that I’m only doing this for aesthetic purposes!

But obviously I don’t want to effect the way the car drives at all.

Does anyone know if running a larger spacer on the front axle than the rear axle is a bad idea?

I would say not.
Im running spacers for aesthetics aswell.
Some will argue that it puts more pressure on the bearings but we're not talking much (unless you're Carlos that is )

Changing the track width delta front to rear will affect the handling characteristics, possibly destabilising the car under unexpected conditions.
It will also need to be notified to your insurers...

I've got 4 x 12mm Black H&R hubcentric wheel spacers with 20 extended wheel bolts also in black, cost me £140.00 . Hardly used.
£70.00 fancy um.

What are they being fitted to?
Ive used spacers on many cars from my 911s to '80s Fiat Uno Turbos (remember them?) to my current cars. I've never had any issues with destabilising both on the road and on the track. It certainly makes a difference in a positive way to my A210 compared to the SWB version I had before as its wheelbase relative to the track was quite a bit different therefore being less stable.
In my opinion slight widening of the track can only lead to positive handling. You are effectively lowering the centre of gravity by a smidgen - bit like standing with your legs slightly wider apart, you're more stable are you not. I'm not going to start on about changing dynamic roll centres at this point though, we're talking a few mm here.

I had an Uno Turbo, my first car MK1. Pocket rocket/death trap all at the same time. That car cost me a fortune to keep on the road...

I’m not at all worried about running spacers. It’s just I’ve heard that running wider spacers on the front axle compared to the back axle is not a good idea.

And to get my ‘stance’ just right I need to run wider on the front than the rear. But it’s not the end of he world going with a square setup instead.
