Spare Keys

That thread has positive feedback from a member saying that the vendor was able to supply and program a new chrome key, and more importantly, re-program a used black key.

Think i might take the plundge and see how this works out

I am in the process of obtaining this equipment.

I have the blank keys just waiting for the software.

Tell me when you get it! :bannana:
... only have one key for my 210 at the moment... and the plastic on that's a bit knackered...

Personally I would probably feel wary about letting someone visit my house who can potentially copy the 'codes' within my cars key to.. use at a later date!
Similarly I'd wonder about getting a new key posted to the home address of my car.

Maybe I should be more trustful.

I'm certainly not implying i wouldn't trust blackc55 by the way!

Not sure yet. I have to see how long it takes to do.
Between £150-200 per key

Isn't that about dealer prices though? I would have been expecting £100 - 125 tops :dk:

Nope, they key is £227 plus vat.

The blank chrome keys are £110 alone!

Just to be pedantic - the 'other side' referred to above is not the Mercedes benz owners club .

The Mercedes-Benz Owners Club is the official club

The Mercedes-Benz Club

Yawn.

It was this repeated diatribe got you eventually banned from over there. Perhaps it would be best to put the grinding stone away. :)

markPPP does seem to know his stuff, there are not many viable links back to in depth threads on this as he does not go out of his way to advertise. He openly admits this service is more for those who have lost a key and are stuck rather than producing a spare key as the costs do work out very similar to MB prices for a new key. Although, with an MB key, you do get a blade also.

The quote he gave me gives me a saving of £65.00 of Merc Main dealer to produce a spare key, I would say thats a decent saving :thumb:

Does that include a personal cut blade ? ?

No it doesnt, thats why marks service is suited better to someone who is stuck without a key rather than have to wait for MB to produce one with a week lead time.

i've just sent him a message, hopefully i'll get a decent price for a new key (i don't need the blade, have the spare... just the original isn't working)

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a personal cut blade?

You have a steel key in your fob, for opening the door when the battery in the fob runs down. It's like any other key, it must be cut to match your "personal" car.

Will a fob work without a cut blade?? i.e. start the car?? or does the the cutblade have to be in the fob for this to happen?

The keyblade simply works the physical locks on your cars.
I've had a Mercedes without one in the fob and it worked fine.

For all the faffing that's going on, I would just buy one from Mercedes. At least then there's no worries to who's got the codes for your car.

I bought a key for a W211 about 3 year ago and it cost me £165.

My MB has only come with the fob so need to get hold of one with a blade for the doors just in case.
I agree with sweetpea though, to take out all the hassle and worry about codes etc main dealer will be where I'm going I think

I bought a CLK 320 Converible about 3 weeks ago but it only came with 1 key. After reading this thread I thought I'd give Mark's company a go (www.replacementmercedeskeys.co.uk) because I wasn't prepared to take the risk of having no back up key should I lose the original. He came to my house yesterday after work and supplied a new key for £165. I found him professional and courteous and he checked that all the key functions worked with my car. He has even promised to send me a blank key blade which I can get cut at a local locksmith. For me the most important thing was I didn't have to waste half a day at a mercedes dealership - saving about £70 was a bonus. I'll let you know if he fulfils his promise to send me a blank key blade.
