This is an online forum, where people come to share their interest in cars and other things. It should not be taken too seriously. At any rate bigfatjim, we here welcome to the forum anyone who wishes to join and I can assure you that I meant no offence.
On the note of spelling police... I came to these shores many moons ago as a young man. My English, initially, was not great (and some say it has only improved very little since...). One of the things that annoyed me about British culture at the time was that the locals seemed to be very complacent about people speaking improper English. I used to make mistakes - sometimes the same ones over and over again - and it could be months or even years before I realised that what I was saying or writing was wrong. It seems that British people - unlike their counterparts in Germany or France - find it either impolite or just awkward/embarrassing to correct foreigners. How are we expected to learn?
I am grateful to all of you here who correct my spelling - and grammar.
(now don't pick apart this post, renault12ts and MOCAS!)
BFJ, you may be surprised to learn that renault12ts is also dyslexic.
Trapperjohn had it spot-on with his itch/scratch analogy, but the danger is that you find you've actually scratched a sore instead and unintentionally made it worse. I think renault's comment was meant lightheartedly, though, bearing in mind that texts and emails containing spelling mistakes are normally associated with phishing and scams.
Also, don't be too hard on markjay's response: the reason he wrote it in text-speak was clearly because he was making a comment on the fact that we were talking about SMS messages. I think you may have missed his humour there, but it's all just part of the banter of the forum.
JBR - you're getting off lightly this time. I'm simply not brave enough to ask you what "gammer" is...
I followed up this offer by filling in their online enquiry
gave them details of my interest and asked for them to email me some offers of specific models with availability or to text me
