These are the people who run the SPECS system (only with Home Office approval - per site). Their website has a list of all SPECS sites that are current just in case the hoax starts again.

Cheers

There are specs cameras on Tower Bridge in London, a 20 mph zone, but the speedcheck website does not list them.

Nor does it list the well publicised SPECS cameras in the Lime House Link Tunnel in East London.

Tower bridge? Wasn't sure I'd ever seen any there..... Do you know where?

Link tunnel is a laugh. It flashes so much, it's like a streetlight at night. :-)

My B2 picked them up and the artcle below confirms.

Testing has started on what are believed to be the country’s first speed cameras in a 20mph zone. Gantries have been erected at both ends of Tower Bridge, London, and three digital Specs cameras placed on each one. The Specs system recognises number plates and calculates each cars’ average speed. It was installed at the request of the Corporation of London, concerned at the increase in traffic over the bridge since the introduction of congestion charging and fears it will be damaged. The cameras are “live” as from January 2004. Speeding drivers will face fines. Peter Hendy, Managing Director of surface transport for Transport for London, said “We think we can demonstrate that cameras do save lives”.

The Road Angel warns of these Specs cameras as well as all fixed and temporary speed cameras. The only thing you still have to be wary of is the mobile vans.

The speed camera signs are used only where there is a fixed camera or they frequently use mobile vans, so if you see a sign but no camera it is likely that there is a van working that road every week or so.

As far as I am aware Blackspot do give a £50 reward if you store a camera location that is not on their database. They tell me they have never given out any rewards as they always get the database updated quickly.

It could be the cameras that were seen on the M5/M42 are not active?

Local authorities have to get planning permission before erecting a speed camera, so the information is readily available. Blackspot have a 'relationship' of sorts with police and local authorities.

In six months or so and just over 20,000 miles, I have never passed a camera without my Road Angel warning me (as far as I am aware!!) I have had a few 'false' warnings where temporary cameras have been or are about to be sited.

'Stick to the limit and you wont get a ticket!'

In Worcestershire the speed camera signs are every where but never any cameras or safety camera partnership vans to be seen. There are only two fixed speed cameras :bannana: they are in Worcester city centre.
If you go tp www.speedaware.co.uk it tells you where the mobile speed cameras are every day. They are also announced over the radio. There are only two of them in Worcestershire as well :bannana: . Mind, the road are that bad we can't drive fast anyway.
