Hi

I have had an Origin B2 for many years and I am looking to renew the subscriptions, but before I do I was wondering has there been many advancements in the technology that make make be getting a new unit worthwhile?

Also if going for a new speed camera detector, which one is the best?

I have looked at the Origin Pogo Alert +, but would consider other brands also.

Thanks

Tan

I guess I'm going to be the devil's advocate here, but my old brain just wants to advise driving at or under the speed limit.

By wanting to install a speed camera detector, you're indicating an intention to break the speed limit.

I have had a B2 for about eight years and have just renewed my subscription for three years on the price for two years deal.
My B2 is hard wired and the Pogo uses a different cradle so I am sticking with the B2......which in any event does the job perfectly.

My B2 was hard wired into the E-class, but I thought before I wire it into the Cayenne, I thought that I would have a look around at the options, since I have had mine since they were released which must have been about 10 years ago.

They are accident blackspot warning devices and also, sometimes the speed limits on roads change and you miss the speed limit signs so such a device gives you an audible and visual warning.

My intention is certainly not to offend anybody BUT why do people bother with speed camera detectors. They are expensive and there is no guarantee that they will work on all the different types of speed detection equipment. They will certainly not work when you have an unmarked Traffic car doing a following check over a minimum distance of 0.125 mile.

My understanding and I must stress that it is my understanding that you have a 10 % + 2 mph allowance above the speed limit to allow for inaccurate equipment.

Why not just stick to the speed limits.

I must agree that the m/way speed limit is way over due for a rise to 80 mph.

Massive advancements in technology since the B2 which is what I used to use, the pogo alert is simply the B2 repackaged and still one of the best units on the market. Roadpilot also make some nice units now as due the new Talex ones. Alternative is Sat Nav with speed camera alerts TomTom now use the Road angel database and update over the air on the live units, the snooper units are also pretty good.

As some members on here know and have seen I am testing a perfectly legal device which makes the car completely invisible to laser and it's not a garage door opener or parking distance control device as there have now been successful prosecutions against those, have tested this with 2 types of speed laser gun and they just don' register :D

As Mr B says though nothing protects you from the police following check other than your eyes, but my Volvo is about as invisible as you can get :D

If you have an i-phone download the "Navfree" app. That has a UK safety camera and blackspot database that is regularly updated. Also you get free sat nav with postcode

I had a Novus Piccalo with free for life updates but something happened to it when I was updating it and now it doesn't register has connected to my PC so I can't update it.
I've been looking at the Novus Delta at Halfords for 55 quid.
Again free for life updates.

Very interesting Ian. Are you able to disclose any more info on this? :)

Front and rear facing video camera's with night vision which just so happens to work on the 904 nM light frequency, the same as laser speed guns :D

Bought mine in Singapore and they were as cheap as chips, also Image is very clear and would be useful in the event of an accident as everything would be recorded, they just record in a loop on an SD card

I'm sure similar would be available here or on a certain auction site :)

Hi Tan

i have a road angel app for the iphone
only 17.99 per annum
its quite useful ..why dont you try a demo

I posted a free code for the Snooper Lynx software app for iPhone a while back. One yrs subs.

I agree though I think its just time to slow down. While these are an aid there are more and more unmarked cars / mobile cameras and some of the sites I've seen them they would have you fixed way before you see them or I guess the machine spots it..

Save money, save fuel arrive more relaxed.

So it uses laser illuminators?

I bought a road angel about a year ago and have to say its brilliant.... it picks up near most of the camera's I have encountered to which as long as you regularly update the database on it, there is no reason for it to not be really helpful...

This the sort of thing per chance??

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

;)

No, I think you need something that has laser illuminators for the cameras. I had a quick Google earlier and couldn't find anything that obviously fitted the bill.

Looks like we'll have to wait for a less 'oblique' reference then! ;)

I'll tell you the make and model when I get back home but IIRC most of it is in Japanese. I'm travelling at the moment so wont be home for a few days, the one I have is slightly different to the one in the post above in that it has the night vision mounted either side of the camera lens and clearly states the wavelength on the box.

You can always have a look at one of the GTG's I attend which range from the South to the North of Scotland :thumb:
