Speedo gets stuck momentarily when accelerating.

I have a CLK W208. When I accelerate anything above what I'd say is the car's top 3/4 level of performance, the speedo tends to get 'stuck' as the car accelerates. It gets worse the faster you go - the odd occasion I floor it, my sat nav says I'm doing 70 when the speedo says 40, then it moves very suddenly (as if acceletating like a F1 car) to 70.

It has done it since I bought the car a couple of months ago. Any thoughts? I have a major service coming up, so if it is a software issue, I could get an update.

Has anyone any ideas on this. My W210 speedo does the same. It reads accurately enough but the sudden jump is disconcerting. ?
