Sports Exhaust Query for CLK W208??

Hi Guys,

As the title says really. Am looking into getting a sports exhaust rear box, either Sebring or supersprint. However, when looking at the original exhaust system on my car it appears that the rear and middle box are connected as one piece as there is no join in the pipe between, so just wondered how I would be able to fit a rear sport box. Do people just cut the pipe in between the middle and rear box and just clamp the sport box to the original pipe??

see diagram below:

Any advice much appreciated, cheers.

When it comes to partial exhaust replacement folks just cut thro the existing pipe at the correct place I say this because if your changing from standard spec it pays to measure up very accurately. The new back box will normally have a socket end on the connecting pipe which will fit over the "stub" pipe left when you cut off the existing exhaust back box . I would even go so far as to leave a bit extra on the old pipe---- fit the new box on its hangers and measure up the final cut for the accurate stub pipe length by lining up old and new insitu remembering that extra couple of inches that go inside the socket.

Nice one Graeme, was kind of thinking perhaps thats what was involved but thought again that it seems a bit strange as there a few aftermarket exhaust back boxes and that original exhaust system didn't have a join for the back box.

Will def take precaution over measuring the pipe work.

Cheers
