Spotted: Ford escort rs1600i...

115hp, 0-60 mph in 8.7 seconds, top speed 115mph. And this was a homologation special - how expectations have changed since then!

I read that too. You'd have to be Ford's biggest fan to pay ~£25k for that IMHO. Then what could you do with it other than park it in the garage to maintain it's value.

Ah, this takes me back. I owned one of these, along with pretty much (nearly) every other RS and XR throughout the 80s and 90s.

According to the ad he has now taken a deposit - so I guess someone was willing!

Can't believe how clean that is, looks factory fresh.

Had two of them in my 'yoof. Rare, even back then.

I always wanted one of the rare Vauxhall Viva HC 4-door saloons with a 2.3 OHC 'slant 4' (110 bhp) under the bonnet rather than the normal 1100 or 1300. Nearest I got was an 1800, which still used to take people by surprise :D

In 1988 I had a MK2 XR2 but I yearned for a MK1 Escort Turbo like this:-

I had a MK1 RS Turbo too (when I was 19). Fond memories but I bet if I drove one again now it would be a let down.

If performance Vivas or Firenzas are your thing then the Dropsnoot is the one to have. A snip at £6K....

26K for a old Escort? I dont know wether to laugh or cry

The fact that there are people who are willing to pay this kind of money for one is quite frankly worrying!

Ford escort mk1 lotus twin cam . Newly restored by Cleevewood Garage in Bristol , for sale at a mere £65k . Thats an expensive escort!

I remember it well, but the standard Viva saloon with the 2.3 was a real 'sleeper' ... which none of the Firenza coupes (let alone the HP!) were :)

Of the more 'obvious' Vauxhalls, I quite liked the Chevette HSR.

Did it take you by surprise when it started on a damp morning !:D
No, it was a great car actually! I had an 1100 Viva before that (also an HC) which was also very reliable, albeit a bit of a handful in the wet on cross-ply tyres!

Reason I ask my father had a Viva and if there was any damp in the air it would not start , if it was raining he would not even bother going out to it he would just walk to work or get a lift,it was that predictable. Then he bought an Austin Princess 2200HLS dont ask !!!:wallbash:

Love a MK3 Escort :)

Had mine for nearly 20 years ;) only goes up in value, unlike new cars that plummet :(
