2 questions really; around about this time of year, I clean down the paintwork and rewax it, takes nearly a day all in all (using Swissol products - anyone else use these? I'm running out of the shampoo, so not sure whether to stick with Swissol (which I think is fantastic) or to try one of the other 'ultra-premium' brands.

Also, do I need to do anything to the hood (W209)? I've just been cleaning it through the winter with clean water and a bit of car shampoo, but every now and then I'm assuming I need to re-waterproof it at some point? How ofter do folks do this, and what do they use?

On re-reading this, the first para is more of a statement  , but I guess what I'm asking is has anyone used Swissol stuff, and if so, do they find Magueures (sic) or something else any better?

Thanks all!

I tend to leave the fabric roof alone - haven't washed it ever, apart from a light spray of water from the jet wash to get rid of the dust. Although the water doesn't bead off any more like it did when it was new its still perfectly waterproof and hasn't faded. Not sure washing it with normal car shampoo is a great idea - I imagine it would fade more rapidly. I have heard the autoglym soft-top care kit is recommended though.

I used Autoglym on the soft top of my MGF. It was very very good - bit of a faff to do;) but worth it:D

In terms of waterproofing a hood, why not try Scotchgard Water Repellant?

I use it on our Boxster, works a treat. Bit of masking up required, but takes no time once you've done the prep and lasts ages.

I have just carried out the same exercise as yourself on my 124 Cab and 129 SL. I have been using Renovo hood reviver (available in many colours) and waterproofer. I found it better that Autoglym but more expensive. Their tel' number is 01444 443277.
