Sprinter starting issues

Hello all ,

2008 sprinter Cdi 2.1

Need to get a fault diagnosed but a generic scan tool comes up with a P1955

Van started hesitating , turned it off and when trying to start it it wouldn't . Cranks for ages and when it does start idles very rough . Pressing the accelerator it dies again . Plenty of white smoke .

Anyone shed any light on the problem . I can't move the van unless towed so want to avoid that if possible

Any advice welcome

Crank position sensor? Is it worse when it's hot?

Just an update for anyone with similar issues

Cracked pistons are the cause . Rebuild is the only solution

And this is a common fault with these engines
