When i got my W210 E240 the SRS light was on but covered by some black tape I have since found out that it is the seat pad, I have no tools at all, nor much tech ability, I dont want to get my trousers pulled down for me by going to a garage considering I have heard it isnt a major job to change, is there someone near Manchester able to do this for me, Just need to find a new sensor now for a decent price.

Passenger seat has a sensor which usually goes. I had it in my W210 a few years ago. I think I paid around £130 for part and fitting at a mercedes specialist. Common problem so I would not worry about it. But as has been said get it to a Star machine to make sure this is what is wrong and not something else. Good luck.

Ps. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks guys, I did have a fault code reader, but sold it once I got rid of my smarts.

I have to deal with a flat battery first, I tried to jump it from my wifes diesel Kia but it was having none of it, all I got was 1 click then nothing, so need to get the battery out and put it on a proper charge, then I will look at the SRS as the car is trapped in a very inaccessible place right now so cant do much with it until I can drive it out.

Getting into the seat pad is not difficult by removing the back and unclipping the fabric there, you may well be able to reach in sufficiently. If that is the fault.

If you remove the battery then nearly everything will have to be reset. Is there any way you can recharge in- situ?

It should have started easily on jump leads. Do you have some other problem preventing start up?

Not sure, everything worked perfectly before I parked the car up, it hadnt been run for about 3 month when went to car couple of days ago to get it sorted the battery was completely dead, I used the poles in the engine bay to try to jump it, even with these on when turned the key the interior light went very dim I had the jumps on for about 10 minutes, yesterday I pulled the rear bench up and theres lots of corrosion around the negative post on the battery, however I am assuming that the corrosion has taken some time to appear and would have been there a few months ago too when the car was running fine.

I could recharge in situ, but the car is at father in laws, really dont fancy sitting there for hours on end, bit wary about leaving charger in the car for a long time

I have ordered a fault code reader, so will see whats what when that comes.

£25 from ebay mate :)

WOW! Are these specific fault code readers to MB, or are they for many different makes of car? And can you cancel the faults using them? Can I be cheeky & ask you to reply with the link to where you bought it please?
Thanks,
Lawrenc

Hi Lawrence, sorry I completely missed your post, I had to replace the battery as it wouldnt accept any charge.

the fault code reader isnt much use to me which I discovered once it arrived, my car is that little bit too old and there is a blank plate where the obd2 socket should be so no easy way out for me lol

They do scan for all fault codes which you check in the book supplied, it will then erase the error code.

The one I have says its compatible with all S & E Class except 38 pin socket (which I have :/ )

Hi can I ask what wire on the emulator connects to the seat wires, the wires I have under the seat are blue & white, brown, & red with black stripe.
Thanks
