Tried to start my car this morning&steering lock will not release. When i first inserted key it made a buzzing noise. When i insert key now theres no buzzing noise, just a faint clicking sound. Also tried releasing the auto trans park lock from the center console with no luck.Any help please!

Sounds just like the ignition switch has gone faulty.

Try another key first

This is a possible brake light switch failure killing the speed signal.

Have you tried the spare Key, make sure the the red end of key is clean

Battery off 5 mins may clear it

Yes you can.

Remove the gear selector surround (pull it upwards) and at the rear of the selector there is a small tab you need to push (black plastic). Push this and pull the lever into N.

Released the park lock.Tried spare key(no luck) cleaned both keys.Disconected battery waiting for 5 mins.Whats this about brake light switch failure?should i replace this switch?

No because the fault is the EIS. The steering lock should release on key insertion, before any other action. If that doesn't happen then it's either the EIS or steering lock, probably the EIS.

Is the EIS the electronic ignition switch Dieselman? think im going to have to get car recovered to a auto electrician

Yes.

The switch is plug and play and takes mins to fit but you need the tool to undo the nut on the switch, and just one screw under the dash.

There is no mention of Star being needed or any coding

some gararge told me that if the EIS was replaced the keys wold need star codeing,so if this is not the case thats got to be good news.Anyway the RAC are on there way to have a look so i hope they can fix it/

Well I just looked this up especially, and that was for the 203016 and 203216 and no mention of coding,, this switch is unlike the the 210 EIS switch that does need coding

Thats the best that I have got

It does need coding as some of the coding options are car specific.

spoke to mb and yes it dose need coding.RAC cant fix it so car being recovered to a independant specialist in sheffield

Very sorry for saying otherwise, I did go to look for it especially, its the first time that I have found an error

Whilst there I saw info of coding the EIS ECU there was nothing on the switch

No problem malcom.A quick update whilst i was waiting for tow truck i tried the keys & low & behold it started! Spoke to the guy at the indie specialist & he says the EIS could be on the way out,but its working at the moment and im keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way!

I was tempted but they quoted around £350 fitted for the eis.then if the key wont reprogram around another £120 ish.May need to use the visa soon though!
