Sticking Mirror Body CLK W209

The door mirrors have an electric motor so they fold in when parking but the passenger side one sticks when it tries to return to the position for driving.

Strangely if you try to push it in to position straight away it just bounces back to where it is but if you switch it to fold back in and then out again a light push will allow the motor to get it to the correct position.

I noticed some scuffing to the section of the mirror body usually hidden when in the 'out' position but can't see what is causing it or why it isn't operating as expected.

Any ideas?

I had exactly the same issue on my W209. The forum collective came to the rescue, its a common problem and usually caused by the wires/solder joints inside the casing ageing and cracking. If you do a search there are a couple of guides, remove the housing and replace the wires with new (flexible) wires.

That's good news. Thanks.

On a different note is it normal for just one mirror to dip down when you put the car in reverse rather than both?

Yes. Passenger side only. Its part of the memory seats option. Can be switched off via the menus on the instrument display.

Thanks. Have already switched it off as I found it annoying.

All the examples of the mirror body movement problems seem to relate to it not moving at all rather than moving part way then sticking.

Is the consensus that it is wires or could there be something else actually causing it to stick? Or could it have got out of sink with the driver side so it thinks they are both out far enough and stops?
