Anyone know what the standard spring pads are for a 98 C240 Sport - I've been to detali.ru and worked it out (can't seem to get there at the moment - possibly being blocked at work). Just after confirmation that I've worked it out right.

Thanks

Have you checked your car to find out? :)

Are they visible or tucked up inside the top mounting?

I will be having a good look look tomorrow as I think i've got a broken rear spring. Posted about an occasional rear knocking a couple of weeks ago - steadily getting worse now, I got the tape measure out and noted the car is sitting about 1cm lower in one corner so it's pointing to a broken spring. Was thinking of dropping one spring pad thickness, so looks like I'll do the drop at the same time.

The rears are the most difficult to see, but the rubber shims have little pips on them so you can tell which is which, you can feel these with your hands or you can see them if you use a torch or something. I posted a pic of mine a while ago.

Likely you will have #3s all around although this isn't guaranteed.

Just come back in after having a quick look after work and saw your post - argg. O well I'll have a look again tomorrow.

Spring seemed OK though - I'll start another thread on that.

You may have chewed through the shim/perch/pad then! Hope for that, it's a £10 replacement.
Doesn't look like it - as the coils are more compressed - see my other thread.

Found the photos and checked - have number 1s at the rear - doesn't seem right if they are standard sport springs as the ride height isn't that low (might explain the fact I seem to get a lot of road noise from the rear).

If I'm going to end up replacing springs anyway I might go for lower springs with thicker pads (more room to play around as well if I'm not satisfied first time) - although I don't what the ride any harder so will have to watch the spring rates.

Anyone any idea what the standard sprot spring rates are??

#3s on the front though - check detali.ru and no way they should be #1s as standard, looks like the rears been played with by a previous owner.

N.B Rear springs have a blue paint blob on both of them - anyone any idea if this signifies anything.

For reference - after a bit of searching I found a reference on the other forum to the fact that springs of the same specification are colour coded with a paint blob to allow for production tolerances (red = short, blue = long). The fact that I have blue blobs suggests springs are "long" - and this might explain the #1 pads (detail.ru says #2).

I had different spring lengths and pads front to rear on my E220 COUPE.
front had the longer spring plus #2 pads
rear had the shorter spring plus #3 pads
I think this is normal from the factory to achieve a level ride height front to back. So I don't think your car has any rear suspension mods??

I'm coming to that conclusion - detail.ru suggests #2 pads on the rear and Shude suggested I'd have #3s all round. I'm now thinking that the springs I've got are on long side of long - hence they were paired with #1 pads at the factory.
