Can someone please help ?

W203 220CDI Coupe

I 've had a few problems with the front SAM unit recently, I've replaced it with a new one direct from my MB dealer. Most things are working correctly except that I get a malfunction warning stating front right & front left markers not working, also It seem to prevent me from setting the locator lights properly. I 've had all the faults cleared by a friend using a star machine yet this marker light fault comes up on the star machine as "open or short circuit US only".

The side & rear lights work fine yet I can set the parking lights to left or right.

All new & good fuses & relays installed any thought s please anyone ? Dave

bit late i guess but ive just cured this on mine. Linked to star m/c confirmed the dash thought it was north american. Reset to uk and warnings now gone.

Did you replace it, or did they replace it?

It needs coding for your car, normal procedure is that Star reads the coding of the old unit and writes it into the new unit (unless old unit dead, then you have to do it by hand) - but there are a bunch of config items.

In USA front SAM drives extra indicators in the side-strips of the front bumpers.

Get your friend to go through the Initial Startup procedure (where old control unit not available) for the front SAM and answer all the questions !!

Hi

I had a new front SAM fitted to my C55 today and the tech got the same problem as above. The SAM says it is USA and shows side markers faulty. Problem is he could not get his STAR to connect/communicate to the new front SAM?

He can connect to the rear SAM with no issue. MB said his STAR needs updating (not convinced).

Is there something that we should be doing with STAR that we are not? All he did was remove the old SAM and replace with a brand new unit from MB.

Regards

Bruce

You are meant to use Star to read the configuration from the SAM (if at all possible, i.e. its not completely dead) and then install the new one and write the config to that.

If it is a brand new SAM, old version of Star may well not recognise it - but if its official Star that is highly unlikely since it would have turned off after 3 months

Thank you. It is a brand new SAM.

STAR can see it but will not bring up the configuration menus for it. It just brings up an error when you try and get into the menus saying that it cannot communicate with the SAM.

STAR does see the rear SAM etc allows you into other menus as well as allowing you to change settings.

The good news is that the SAM cured the problem it was replaced for (no sidelights) but the car now thinks it is a US spec.

Hello all

My first post, only got my W203 220CDI estate last week. I think I may have given myself this warning by performing a factory reset "Both front side markers not working" I thought the bulbs had blown but side markers are not fitted.

What is the solution, any help appreciated.

Phil
