Hi all

My sunroof is playing up...It will slide back and tilt ok with one press of the button but when I go to close it it shuts in stages and i have to keep pressing the button to get it level with the roof.

Ive just taken the car for new discs, pads and an A service but my indies too busy to look at the roof today,is this a known fault with sunroofs? is it the open close switch itself or are there limit switches somewhere?

Anyone had this problem before? thought id ask before I try a new switch.

Marty

go back and forth 2 or 3 times and at each end hold the button for a few seconds.

They must have disconnected the battery and so its lost the memory. You may need to do the same with the windows.

Quick reply Jay:) the batterys not been disconnected the sunroof problem happened before it went to my indy, thinking about it ive lost the window open feature using the key fob aswell.

Ill try it when i get it back. Thanks

My sunroof on the S211 is doing the same. It hasn't been anywhere though, nor had it's battery disconnected.

I have just been out to it and tried the sunroof operation. It is 'sticking' for want of a better expression in two or three places along it's travel. If I use the one-touch mode (second detent on the switch) the roof moves until it hits a sticky patch and backs off again. I can only close it if I keep the switch held in the close position.

Therefore I think it most likely that lubrication is the issue. How and where should I do this, please? And with what?

Cheers!

MB sell a special sunroof grease and it costs a fortune.

But yes if it sticks like corned's car then you need to open it and grease up all the linkages and rails..

I have used a combo of castrol lm and wd40 on my 124 sunroof for years and never had any problems.

ancililary work

babymog's headliner tutorial:

I've got to pull the sunroof cable and clean and relube...
I know no one before me has gotten around to it...
It's a miracle the thing still works!

I'll get an ounce of the G'Paste from Rusty...should be enough to do both
the "Sliders" (Little Felt covered Rubber Feet) ,Rails and the Cable.
I received my new "Sliders" from Mercedes of Cincinnati last week...
(You have to mentally prepare yourself for sunroof work...
Calm ,Organized and No Distractions.)

If you've found a Lubricant that works for you, long term, Congratulations!

I have already received preliminary notice from Mr. Murphy (Lord of Obfuscation)
that should I attempt to use any other Lubricant ,
my Sunroof will GRIND to a halt [OPEN]...with Deluge to follow Immediately.

If the battery was low or any interruption i.e. key fob removal during close of the sunroof took place it can require a reset or a battery disconnect to reset

Try the reset procedures here

Synchronizing sliding/pop-up roof:
If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or low), or if the sliding/pop-up roof is blocked during closing/opening procedure, the system has to be synchronized. To do so, turn electronic key in steering lock to position 2, move and hold switch in direction (3), until the sliding/pop-up roof is completely raised at rear, and hold for additional 1 second

Synchronizing power windows:

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or low), the windows cannot be opened or closed by the Express feature. To resynchronize the express feature, press side of power window switch to resistance point until the window is completely closed and hold for additional 2 seconds. Repeat procedure for each window. The automatic full opening and closing procedure of the windows should now be restored. (Note: This sometimes works as well for problems with manual operation of the windows, but not always).

If they dont work, disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. Reconnect the battery and carry out the reset procedures.

Mine would not close properly after I removed the ignition key when the sunroof was still closing.

Worked a treat for me :thumb:

Forgot to add, if you disconnect the battery you will have to reset the ESP/BAS
Synchronizing ESP (ECU):

If the power supply was interrupted (battery disconnected or empty), the BAS/ESP malfunction indicator lamp may be illuminated with the engine running. Turn steering wheel completely to the left and then to the right.
