Tail gate will not open!!

W210 estate, symptoms are the tailgate starts to open but gets stuck where the self closing action starts. Will self close itself but refuses to open past the self closing point??

Any ideas, can this be adjusted out??

Climb in the back an see if you can use some leverage on the lock mechanism.

No, the car is at home, I was asking for advice so I could fix it when I get home. If my wife breaks another nail on it she will probably torch it!!!

Why is it doing it? Is it out of adjustment??

Not loose, but when I got the tailgate open, I released the two torque screws, knocked the catch back towards the back of the car about 2mm and everything is great in the world again!!!

(Wife unpacking her cases as we speak )
