Tailgate light fault

Hello there all,

Had a fault come up today on my C220 (2003 pre facelift model). Warning flashed up indicating my rear driving lights were out and that the 'spare' ones were on.

Had a look and when I turn on the headlights the rear taillights come on for a second then turn off and the upper 'spares' come on.

Fuse OK, check.

Bulbs OK, check.

No ingress of water, check.

End of auto electrical know how...check!

Could anyone tell me how to fault find the route of the problem please?

There are two bulbs per side for the side lights at the rear. Check both bulbs both sides.

Try removing the bulbs, and cleaning the contacts in the holder.

I have had this twice on different bulbs on my ML, it cured the problem.
