Tar & Discoloured wheels

Yep, WOW, he's the man. Again, in depth, and understandable(despite spelling mistakes)analysis of the correct way to clean your wheels, and by the way H13BS is doing himself out of some trade to tell you this, so don't tell anyone.!!!!!!!!

70% of my work, so far, is from people I have told how to clean there car correctly.I guess they appriciate someone with a little bit of knowledge on the subject. But from telling them, they have said to me,' it clearly is a passion'. So in the end they are more then happy to hand there car to me to do some magic, beacause by this point they trust me.

Remember 80% of cleaning your car properly is professionalism, time and dedication. Without knowing the best way to apply your tools, and putting in the time, will never get the task done to perfection, even if you have the right gear.

Hense the reason i'm happy to tell you a better approach to cleaning things on your car, if i know.:thumb:

also when you tell them how much effort is involved they would rather pay someone to do it :)

+1 for WOW:thumb:

H13BS, I live many miles from you my friend, and would like nothing more than for you to "Detail" my cars. You show and posess the dedication required, not only to do the job, but also, instruct others as to the correct way of going about such a task. I am impressed with your attention to detail (no pun intended) and will attempt to follow your guidance, the next time I have a spare weekend, to crack on with the SL. Thankyou for your tips and suggestions as to which products to use. I will let you know how I get on. Regards Lee :thumb::thumb::thumb:

No kidding! Am not buying an iPhone if it makes my spooling that bod lol :thumb:

It is when you're flat out on a job and needed to type this on an iPhone in a minute or so. But to be fair there's better things to worry about, then perfect spelling consistently on an Internet forum.oh well!

Not a problem bud, glad I could help!

Hi there I do this everyday so here are my full proof products. To remove tar from wheels and bodywork with ease and safetly, then the best product is tardis. This is most defently the best tar remover on the Market. Then for the wheels buy urself some bilberry wheel cleaner. This is a non acid wheel cleaner that packs a punch without it eating the laquer off like the awful acid wheel cleaners on the Market.leave it to dwell on the bone dry wheels as it will stick 100% much better then if you apply wheel cleaner to a wet wheel. After it's dwelled for 10-15 mins then start scrubbing with you wheel brushes ect, till your happy, then rinse off. Once rinsed, get yourself some clay( sonus green is a resinable price and quite good) and rubbed all over the wheel with moderate pressure. You will need a quick detailed for lubricate, as the clay will stick to the surface making it hard to remove defects. Then using this and then a combo of tardis, will remove the defects and alot of oxidations. Once done rinse the wheel off and dry. Then your wheel will be clean but will still might be slightly disco loured. If this is the case, go buy a pre wax cleaner like lime prime, but make sure it has micro abrasives in it. This will eat the last of the oxidation's and bring clarity bk to the wheel.make sure though that you work it in until the pre wax cleaner as turned clear. This way you will know that the micro abrasives in the pre wax cleaner have broke down and eaten as much oxidation out of the surface. Once this is done, buff off with a microfibre. Now you will be left with a true colour, defect free alloys. At this point you will realize how much work you have put into the wheels and will think,' I don't want the wheels to get wreck again as it took so long to correct the issue'. Trust me this will be the case. So go buy a heat proof sealant called fk1000p. 2 coats of this on each wheel, and your have no worries for 6 months, whatever the weather. This sealant withstands heat generated by breaks so is an assume product for wheels. Plus you can use it on the paintwork before winter to protect it over the winter months. Apply this to the wheels like wax and leave to cure for 45 mins, then buff off. If your gona pit 2 coats on, leave for 24 hours to let that coat soak into the surface.once this is all done you'll never have a problem again! Just top the wheels up with fk1000p every 6 months!

Sorry there's properly lots of spelling mistakes as I'm typing this on my iPhone, so forgive me! Lol!

Hope this helps mike
Hi tried searching for this fk1000p from sellers on detailing world, but unable to locate. Who sells it? and who is the manufacturer?

White spirit and cotton wool removes tar.

I took all the advice possible form here and the weekend saw me attack the car.
First off washed with Meguiars Nxt gen car wash.
Then broke out the clay bar, this took a long time due to the amount of detritus on the car(Including the lumps of tar!).
With an ever increasingly aching arm I then polished it with Meguiars polish and finished it with Meguiars nxt gen Wax.
After all that I cleaned the wheels.
Boy I can see why detailers charge so much!
Not sure the missus will let me do this again for a while....unless it is her car!
So Here are some pics! (I know the exhaust is dirty, need chrome cleaner I think!)
