Taxing a SORN car

I don't know all the regs , but I do remember that DVLA always state that SORN can be cancelled at any time by taxing the car .

As long as it has been more than a month you should have the choice of either taxing to use immediately ( ie backdating to start of current month ) or deferring to start of next month .

I don't see why it should matter how you choose to purchase the tax ?

I think in DM's case it is because he only SORN'd from this month .

Took mine off SORN yesterday by taxing at the local Post Office, where you can only tax up to two days before the beginning of the month you want it to commence from. You will need to take your logbook with you, as well as the other documents.

My experience has always been that if a vehicle is on SORN and you tax it, it can only be taxed from the beginning of that month.

I tried to tax my bike last night (on SORN) and the only option I saw was from 1/3/11
Taxed it this morning and the option was 1/4/11.

So I had to ride in this morning with the tax out of date. (Hope JBR isn't reading this!) :)

My experience is that once a car has been sawn it cannot be unsawn! :D

The two days before information is given on the Direct.Gov website, but it appears you can't use that facility either online or by phone, which is wrong as it forces people into the situation that Ted is now in and I would be if I needed the car on the road.
