Greetings, Citizens.

As some of you my be aware, I've recently taken delivery of a 2006 SLK55. And very nice it is too. :)

However, I find it irksome that it has absolutely no built-in phone facility - even my wife's 17 year old Fiat Panda can beat this courtesy of a bluetooth-enabled head unit I fitted a couple of years ago.

What options do I have to get some phone functionality in the car? It has comand fitted (of whatever flavour that was current in 2006), but this is not apparently bluetooth enabled. I could go down the route of buying a bluetooth thingy to clip onto the sun visor, but that's a bit minicab.. there must be a better solution.

All advice welcome from the knowledgeable folks that hang around these parts..

Cheers,

Gaz

You say it has Comand fitted - does it have telephone pre wiring?

If it does then you just need to get a Bluetooth module to fit on the pre wiring. You then pair your phone (if compatible) and use it through the Comand.

The 17 year old Fiat cannot really beat it if You fitted a head unit 2 years ago with bluetooth....It never came with that... :)

Anyway I would drop a PM to Alfie on here from command uk, they should be able to sort you out with the right leads, connectors and such like.

One thing though it may cost as much as a 17 yr old fiat :)

If you have telephone pre-wire you will have the UHI exchangeable cradle connector in the armrest. http://www.comandonline.co.uk/images/D/ML_HFP_connector_384-01.jpg

If you have the connector then you just need a bluetooth cradle. I would recommend the ViseeO MB-2. Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes Phone/Bluetooth :: Cradles & Bluetooth Adapters

If you dont you can retrofit phone pre-wire but it isnt cheap. Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes Phone/Bluetooth :: Phone System Retrofit Kits

Aleternative would be changing the Comand unit to the Last model NTG2.5 which has full bluetooth built in.

Or installing an aftermarket bluetooth kit like Parrot.

Bloody hell, £400 for the bits and I've got to fit it myself? I wish I'd known that before I bought the car, I'd have negotiated that into the deal. The thought of cutting holes in my new car with a Dremel brings me out in a cold sweat..

And then I have to buy a Bluetooth gizmo on top of that? Courtesy of the bluetooth head unit and my trusty Garmin, it seems the Panda has better connectivity and nav options than my shiny new Mercedes. Ridiculous.

Cheers,

Gaz
