It's that time of the year for me. My renewal from E-sure is £405, a reduction of £25 on my current premium

Cheapest quote is from Tesco, £360.

So, it seems like a switch is on the cards.

Anyone with Tesco currently/ If so, how do you find them? Anyone needed to claim through them?

TIA, David.

I have been with Tesco for a few years now. Recently got hit from behind on a roundabout. They got the claim sorted fast and said it would not effect my no claims as the other company admitted full liability so I was happy.

Wife's with them and has been for a couple of years - cheapest for her for sure.

Fortunately never claimed so dont know how good they are in the event of a prang.

For what it's worth, some time ago SWMBO was severely shunted by a Tesco insured moron at a roundabout, they were by far the best and most painless Insurers I have ever had to deal with. We had a several problems with the hire firm providing the "loaner". On each and every occaision Tesco stepped in cheerfully, and sorted them out. I was well impressed.

'Tesco' is simply Direct Line, isn't it?

They wouldn't insure my car without a Traking device fitted, I too think they are Direct Line as the quote screen format is identical appart from the logo's.

i dont think tescos are directline.direct line is a subsidary company of RBS who also own natwest but it could be possible that directline do the underwriting on behalf of tescos. tescos is too big and rich which is why they can afford to offer their own financial products and why they are also one of the cheapest around.

tescos are good, used them a few years back, claimed and they were quick at sorting it all out, however last years renewal was high, so i went with Asda, and their renewal has come through and is slightly higher, and RAC seem to come out the cheapest this year!

Direct line are really high price wise!

I use Tescos, cheap:)

Beware though as I recently wanted to test drive various cars for my new purchase and hit a brick wall with tesco to insure them on days out.

I had to arrange seperate cover for each car to use it on my own for a day or go with the salesman!!! Tesco would not cover me and even if you need to hire a car/van or whatever, tesco wont cover the insurance for it. Apart from that no prob.

Mark.

Used them for years, no problems, until Sainsbury's gave me a better quote :D who I've been with for the last 2 years. Also had to claim through Sainsbury's and was a trouble free experience - never needed to claim with Tesco .

Would compare Tesco & Sainsburys, and their T&Cs, and see which works out better.

Looked a little bit further and Tesco insurance is underwritten by UK Insurance Limited. They're owned by RBS, who also own Direct Line (and Churchill and Priviledge).
So it's not quite Direct Line as I suggested earlier - I based my original view on the fact that Tesco's quote screen is exactly the same as Direct Line's.

Wifey was hit last year - claim and repairs dealt with very swiftly, including personal injury. No problems at all.

As an aside - all Tesco financial products are provided/backed by RBS. UKIL is the RBS "reseller" brand...

Thanks to all.

I will be cheecking out RAC & Sainsbury's.

To those who are/have been insured with Tesco, did you bother shelling out a few extra quid for a guaranteed hire car? I think the add-on for me is £15.

Give confused.com a try.....they came out cheapest for me with Admiral.

I had the same from them. Just didn't seem worth it for my car.

my vote goes with www.confused.com ---first year I had the 300TD they saved me £200 (that was with Kwickfit) and after Kwickfit come back at me this year with a far more expensive quote, I again used confused and now am with www.its4me.co.uk who saved me another £80 off of Kwickfits offer

Elephant now cheapest @ £350.

Members' experience of Elephant.......????
