That satisfying ownership feeling

My next door neighbours only have one car, an old diesel Astra. But for a week recently there was a new Bentley saloon parked on their drive - never did find out why?!

Maybe they had Paul and Debbie over to stay?? Now that's magic...

People do judge on appearances and perception. A Bentley was parked outside my house and I thought "ooh blimey..who's that".... for all I know it was Paul Danials.... how intimidating

:D

^ Haha! You sure you aint a dealer?

I sold my Clio about 2 weeks back for £2100; gave £1800 to my mum towards our housekeeping (My dad aint been with us since 2004...divorce...etc). I was left with £300, and my hard saved £1700, £2000 to spend on my next car. I'd always loved the E34 5 series, and fancied one, so saw a few, all were described as immaculate, but had gearbox leaks and whatnot.

I was about to give up and buy a travelcard when I was leaving a mates house in Chiswick to catch the tube when I saw a very nice 520i at a garage for £2000. I asked for a test drive, it was perfect. I went back 3 days later and having lost £300 cash somewhere (either lost or around the house somewhere!), I managed to get the dealer down to £1700.

Only glitch was that the dealer had advertised it as a 520i...I found out 2 days back it's a 525i, from looking at the logbook properly and looking the car up properly! Being 21 is a headache but I'm a mature driver with 4 years no claims so wasn't too bad! My mum gives me comments like 'So, where you off to drug deal now eh?!' and 'You old man...why you get a saloon car? you need a sports car!'

The neighbours thought it was my father and he'd come back, but when I told them it was mine, they were surprised...! :D

That was a very thoughtfull thing to do for your mom

:)

Got to do your bit, I been bought up to keep my mum happy, moreso now than before. It ain't easy but then life isn't easy either, you make the most of life's ups and downs, and you appreciate what you have! I'll take some pics later & stick them up in the 'other marques' gallery...I just hope I dont get any stick, haha! :D

I used to get the odd few comments at my old work, I was 20 and i had a 10 year old bmw 735 SEi, when the boss only had a basic 3 year old c180 and the next nicest car was a 4 year old honda civic. but you find the money for the things you find important. i worked LOTS of overtime and done homers fitting parking sensors so i could have the car and speedboat that i wanted. when asked i always said how much did you spend on drink or drugs and going out at the weekend? the answer was usually more than what i spent on my good times considering the beemer was on a limited mileage insurance policy and the beemer and boat were bought for next to nothing because they were faulty and i repaired them myself.
my missus gets the same sort of comments now when she takes the clk320 to work, because she works in a factory.

Exactly...very true. Alot of freinds around my age have asked the same, as in 'How much you spend on that?', I just casually say 'well, add up the amount you and the rest of the guys spend when you go out, and then add up the amount of time I haven't come out cos I'm staying in, making someone a PC, fixing someones car or installing stuff; or doing a nightshift.'
Good on you having a nice car at that age, if you saved hard and worked hard, it was well earned! :)

I've had the odd comment, "nice car" when getting out in certain places etc, I just knew I didn't want a corsa or Nova! And I get a few looks from men now and then! :D
Alot of people see the badge and must think "expensive" but to be honest Mercs aren't all that dear....!!

When i first got mine we went swimming at the local pool. Wife & kid left me faffing with the car and went inside, closely followed by another family. I arrived just in time to hear my wife say to my eldest something along the lines of "your father just won't leave the car alone", only to have the father of the other family say "if I had a car like that i'd never leave it alone either"

Little did they realise I was faffing with it as I couldn't get the blasted keyless locking to work and had just had to restrain myself from kicking the thing...

Ever since then I seem to attract 10 year olds riding bikes shouting 'nice car' through the windows during summer - although I had an interesting change to that today when three 'gentlemen of Irish decent in a battered transit' shouted across the road "gorgeous car mate!" much to the (good natured) amusement of everybody around.
