Well it was a short lived CL experience; I loved the car but just wasn't using it enough and it was too big for the garage so before it started to deteriorate I decided to let it go. I bundled in my SLK 320 too so no MBs at the moment. These CLs are wonderful beasts and I'm going to miss it. In my years ownership I replaced the ABC pump and had the system flushed, had an "A" service, replaced both door mirror indicators as they both failed, she had new tyres and bottom ball joints replaced. I never managed to fix the radar cruise control and the keyless locking buttons on the doors failed too. The ceramic coating kept her looking smart and was well worth doing.

All in all a good experience and I always looked back at it with a smile when walking off. The buyer is a dealer but has decided to keep it for a while for himself.

I wish you all happy motoring.

Hi Simon

Apologies for my radio silence, but unfortunately I am still waiting to get my CL55 back from the garage as there have been some major issues with sourcing MB replacement parts. The struts took 6-8 weeks to arrive and the ABC pump was due in on the 19th but just chased again this morning, so I will hopefully receive an update today.

Pete

Point taken, we have been fairly economical here in that respect.Oh I now see it thanks.
Thanks for sharing, that is a really interesting and unique CL for sure and excellent video - just watched the first one and will catch up on the rest later.

I am still at having major issues with the Chinese manufacturer of the Struts - Airsufat and that is becoming a real frustration, but for the sake a keying a few messages, I am continuing to hound them. They finally offered to repair the failed struts, but as they did not contact me for ONE MONTH, I had to purchase new struts as I didn't think they were ever going to reply. They only did reply when I managed to speak to a Supervisor at Ebay who contacted them and strongly advised them to reply to me.

They have offered a 45% refund, but to be honest, that is just not good enough and I want a full refund due to that fact that my original struts lasted 62,000 miles, their replacements lasted 2,000 miles!

Plus the cost to have the struts replaced twice and now the additional cost of buying MB parts (however this is definitely the way to go even though more expensive as you will get peace of mind).

I have now contacted and International Trade body who are going after them, but I don't hold out too much hope and ebay wash their hands of it if it is over 30 days from the purchase when the parts fail. Buy your parts from Amazon as they WILL honour the warranty that the seller offers and refund you themselves.

All I get from Airsufat is, 'they have been used, please send them back and we will repair' which of course, I am not going to do as I have no need for them now! Of course they have been used, they are a car part!

Will keep you updated on if I get anywhere but as I said before, please think twice before you buy replacement remanufactured parts from this supplier Airsufat as their after service is dreadful and the 2 year warranty they offer is worthless. They state they will reply to you within 24 hrs - it took them an entire month! Another point to make is that as many of us use these cars on the weekends and therefore we are not putting usual mileage on, for me, it has been 11 months since the new struts were fitted and I have only covered 2,000 miles. They keep going back to the point that I have had the parts and used them for 11 months. However it is down to the mileage and they will not answer my question of 'what is the life expectancy of your struts?'.

Some of you may have bought remanufactured parts and they have been fine and it could be that I was just 'unlucky' and this one set that has failed, but ywhen you purchase parts you do want some peace of mind in the event they do fail.

As you can tell, a very frustrating experience for me. Sorry to rant! Lesson learnt!

Very sorry to learn that you are having such difficulty with Airsufat honouring their "Guarantee" but it is a warning to anyone considering purchasing one of their products. I only hope that your persistance
does eventually prove to be successful.

Your car being marooned with your repairer
awaiting spares is becoming a familiar story
for us all.
My car is also in a similar position
with the "Indie" waiting for M-B replacement items for a fortnight so far.
I also had a 6 week wait for a new Goodyear
tyre from Germany.

I heard from the ‘new’ owner of my old C215! (20 months on)
He contacted me via messenger, and it seems like it’s still running well. Nice to hear it’s in good hands.

Always reassuring to hear that, nice gesture from the current owner too.

I sold my 27000 mile Cl55 Komp earlier this year after 10 years of ownership, due to lack of use. However for some reason i now seem to have a 2003 Cl500 sat in the garage (think the medication isnt doing its job anymore!). Just wondered if anyone knew the car as it is damaged and will be repaired. Damage to o/s front corner. K777 JJP, appears to have come from north wales area.

Welcome back twinstar ! I was sorry when you sold your last CL, it was a cracking show car.
Knowing the standard of that, how does the latest one compare ?
Has this one got an interesting history ?
Have you got a photograph (Damage & all) ?

Incidentally where did your previous car go ?

The Cl55 went to chap called Richard at 28 state cars in Burscough, Lancs. He had the car up for sale for me but ended up buying it. He has it advertised on Ebay. The Cl500 has only done 60k and has been a lovely car throughout but i have no idea of previous owner etc. It has blown a suspension pipe on the o/s front which looks like it has pulled the car suddenly and sharply to the right resulting in the accident damage which has written it off. It will be repaired properly and the whole car brought up to show standard.

That was particularly interesting regarding your previous CL. It was in august
American company at 28State cars. It looks as if he has been using it, from the look on Ebay.

Your "new" one looks very promising too with only 60k miles.
The damage to it was similar to that of your old car .
It certainly does not take much to write them off now.
Is yours going to be an easy restoration ?

ACTION TO TAKE AFTER ABC WARNING

Blue or White warning .. A blue or white error message is considered a warning. The control module has detected a problem but the system is still functional
.Drive Carefully" is a warning message saying the system is not operating at 100%.
Low pressure is the most common cause.so check the fluid level.
( Intermittent sensor glitches can also cause it to appear momentarily.)

"Visit Workshop" is more severe. It indicates a component has failed and is in need of repair. probably the pump causing system low pressure.
If an ABC error message comes on the dash for the first time totally unexpected & stays on (and you are not running with a related known issue) , you should pull over immediately and shut off the engine. Seconds count.
Check the fluid reservoir and make sure there is ample fluid present.
If there isn`t, do not attempt to start the car until you have added fluid back
There will most probably be a system leak & if the pump is allowed to run dry (even briefly) it will be destroyed, shedding metallic debris & progressively damaging the other system components
Don't even think about trying to make it home without fluid.

The reservoir dipstick has two marks. The upper one is when the engine is off. The lower one is for when the engine is running. It takes 5-10 minutes for the system to depressurize and the fluid to return back to the reservoir when the engine is shut off. Be sure to wait before checking the fluid level. Fresh fluid is clear with a green tint. If it has become brown or black, you should replace. Contamination is extremely hard on hydraulic o-rings and seals and pumps and will lead
to failure.

Should the ride height of any of the 4 corners of the car drop to an unacceptable level, the ABC system will display a "Too Low" warning.

Typical situations where this message may occur are:-

( 1) the car has sagged while parked and the height is below the minimum level.
Pressing the ride height button should raise the vehicle and clear this

(2) When cornering or braking hard, the message may appear briefly which indicates the system is having trouble keeping up with demand (low pump pressure or failed accumulators the typical cause),

( 3) The message comes on and stays, indicating some sort of leak or valve block failure or other component failure is preventing the corner of the car from being raised back up to an acceptable level. You should pull over or risk the tyres coming into contact with the wheel linings or .

It is far better to deal with the inconvenience of having the CL towed/recovered rather than incur expensive repairs to the car.

I keep a copy of this inside the glove box as an "aide-memoire" Splitpin

I still have my CL65. I think it put 6 miles on it in the last two years.
So how is your CL standing up to the Texas sun alabbasi ? If it's not used do you start it up occasionally to exercise the systems ? Have you kept it stock ? It would be interesting to know ....

May have done 30 miles in the last year. I do run it every couple of months. One problem with the building where i store it is that it's 12000sq/ft and only has one door which means it's about 5 rows in.

Yes when it is not readily accessible it's a temptation to leave it where it is but it's under cover & you are able to occasionally exercise systems. Has it given much trouble since you have owned it ? Low mileage ?

I bought the car in 2018 with around 34xxx miles and i think it still has 34xxx miles. In one year, I did 6 miles so I've not given it the opportunity to give me any trouble but I'm sure it will at some point as they all do.

Hi guys just purchased my 2005 cl600 with 37k miles! Im not in
Europe but love your group and hope you will except that im an owner!
Hello machtan
How are you getting on with your CL600 ?
Has it proved to be reliable ?
Have you been putting some USA mileage on it ?
