An interesting poll which prompted me to ask this question...................
I don't personally think that the number of attempts to pass your driving test has any correlation with how good a driver you may (or may not) become over the ensuing years.

I have been driving now on a full licence now since 1967 - 42 years (is it really that long)?
And in all that time the number of claimable motor accidents I was "at blame" is 2.
Therefore my personal "safety factor" is 42 divided by 2 = 21.
I have no way in knowing whether 21 is a good or bad figure.
What's your number?
No need to give details of number of years driving or number of 'incidents', just the final number.............

Mine is a LOT less than yours! Mostly because I haven't been driving for that long I guess. It's 5. One accident.

I've been driving cars and bikes since 1968 and never had a blameworthy accident so my number is 43. :thumb:

25 years driving, no accidents so mine is 25...

18 years, 2 claims, none my fault bit still NCB lost.

36yrs / 550,000mls no at blame accidents = 36

mine is 16, averaging about 100,000 miles a year, so one accident every 1.6 million miles.

Very important to factor in average annual mileage to get a true reflection, been driving 25 years, had one at fault claim, average 15k a year over the 25 years:dk:

hmmmm. not had any accidents since I became over 25......

I often have heard people think that the more times they take the test prior to passing means they should be safer. It would appear the principle behind this is that they have had more training.

Totally misses the point that they have not picked it up as quick as others, and therefore it could be argued are naturally less gifted as drivers.

The amount of times you take to acheive the standard is irrelevant in most cases. Its the lenght of time it took you to get to the standard that is the main issue.

Then after that, it depends on your own decay rate from learning to drive, to not being good enough to achive that standard today.

If you don't drive regularly you will lose the skills quickly.

I have been involved in a number of incidents where the contact between vehicles was deliberate (not an accident) and have to declare those to my insurance company.

Do I have to cover those here?!

my number is 8.

however it was 2.66 and has been steadily on the increase ever since. so for the last 18 out of 24years, it has been 100% acident free. Of course in that time, I have managed to have a number of cars with over 200bhp and 3 that will have no trouble exceeding 150mph (2 others would have in the region of 150ish), 4 of my last 8 cars have sub 6 sec 0-60's 2 of them sub 5secs.

I also have had a lot of driver training, including various circuit instruction.

not to mention some experince.

This sort of topic must surely be tempting fate...

However, including two years of underage, illegal motoring, I have had 45 fortuitously accident-free years of motoring during which I would estimate to have covered around 340k miles.

I will gloss over DUI, speeding and near misses - two of which might have been terminal but for my evasive action...

27 years driving cars and motorcycles, no idea of the mileage but I'm not a high-mileage driver as a rule. I did have 2 x 36k years in my new 5GT Turbo back in the day

No claims against me, so my number is 27.

@jimti

mine is 16, averaging about 100,000 miles a year, so one accident every 1.6 million miles.

100k a year, that's seriously high mileage :thumb:

Q.

Been driving 5 years and i've had 3 accidents... 2 of which were my fault

So i'm 2.5?

And to bring it into context, i've done 83k miles on the c200, 1-2k miles on the bluebird, 5k on the astra, 32k on the c230k and 1k so far on the 540i.

So i've done 83000 + 1500 + 5000 + 32000 + 1000 = 122500miles in 5 years!

Shame on you! :D

Those 3 accidents all happened in 2009! So glad to see the back of that year !
