The missing RHD AMG Hammer????

Update

Just an update...

I have done zero work on the car - save find some of the mising bits.

The rear exhaust as i mentioned is not the AMG item - the sebring boxes were not great w.r.t. longevity, so probably rotted at some point....i tracked down and original w124 Hammer rear box.....very good condition too....pics attached !

Also found an AMG Aero I period correct...theis Hammer has two wheels which are te post 91 Aero Is...i had one correct spare at home already, got this from ebay for 50 pounds, 8 x 17 et28.

The front AMG bumper tow hook cover was missing - i ordered that from MB today, 40.51 + vat. Easy ordering the body bits as they are all HWA part numbers....cf w126 AMG parts which don't have HWA part numbers.

So with all the parts sorted, i'm now ready to restore.

BTW, i found a new item on the car i did not know was there....i put a fresh battery in the boot, and when i started her up (instant turn-key starter this car is !) a beautiful Kenwood flipped into sight from the centre console....!!!! It had not presented itself before, only when i renewed the battery ! Brilliant !! Expensive piece it is too.

What a beautiful car, what a gorgeous history. Have since discovered that htere is one LHD Hammer in the States, that begain life in Germany as a 5.6 Hammer...but on it's move to the USA, it was modified again and bored out to 6 litres !!

And there is one 5.6 Quad cam w124 Widebody Coupe in the AMG Museum ! See attached pics !!

The more i discover about this car, the more it's value just rockets towards the sky.

Do you think it possible to bring to the PRESTIGE GTG this coming May?

Now THAT would attract mega attendance and interest............We could all get to actually touch the hallowed paintwork........

See the "Events" section on this forum for more details.....................

It's feasible - I can only try my best to get it upto scratch before then.

cheers

Would this run et28's? The E500/500e runs ET11's the same as the SEC's from memory, does the 560E not have flared arches?

Also if you're stuck for Pre 91 Aero I genuine centre caps, I have a couple of these stashed away as replacements if I ever lost any off my rims, but to see the 560E complete I'd let them go.

The 560E is a normal w124 body shape, it is well before the era of the 500E....the arches on the 560E are rolled and flared very slightly to accomodate the et28's. The et11's are for 126, 107 and w124 500E application only.

I have a set of 4 spare caps, but thanks very much for the generous offer.

Wow - what a car and what a buy, simply amazing! Wish you the best with it and please post some more photos in detail once you have finished. I daresay that this will be a car that will unfortunatly go unnoticed so I hope that you take adequate measures to prevent the unthinkable, please dont take what I say the wrong way but a car of such pedigree and history will attract unwanted attention.

Envy is a terrible thing.

If anyone's thinking of nicking it, i'll refer them to Vlad's first post in this thread......that'll put 'em off !

It was a 230E, then sent to Strattons / AMG by the owner to do the conversion which entailed :

5.6 Quad cam M117
AMG bodykit
AMG wheels
AMG Gleason-Torsen differential
AMG exhaust
560E badge

The 560E was an option on Strattons list of modifications - i shall scan up the Strattons advert on this and the article on the car and post up later.

cheers

Kind regards

Edward
