The missing RHD AMG Hammer????

Hi Talbir,
Looking very closely at those pictures the does indeed have a 'hole' in the roof :D

In late August there is a week-end GTG being held at Torquay in SouthDevon and I think it fair to say that a few of those coming are fans old old bangers  :) and I'm sure someone would like to drag you and one of your excellent cars to this gathering. The numbers are limited for a part of this event just because it is being held at a private address but I'm sure that Ian Walker would bump someone off to make sure there was room for you. :D

Any chance of making this event? PLEASE

Yours sincerely
John

Honoured and privileged to receive the invite - i do think i might make late August...but let me check my movements as it is a very busy time ahead....!

cheers

Talbir, I am sure there would be a queue of people offering to drive your cars there if you can't make it!!

Me first!! ;)

We are a friendly forum, but there are not any rules about having to join any fan clubs before posting any facts.

Absolutely ....

Talbir and I have resolved our intial differences ...

Just for your information Graham , i'm not a member of any fan clubs , Vlads or otherwise , as i could see that was a veiled reference to me . ;)

OK ?

What I find interesting is how quickly people are ready to believe everything they read in a first post. I'm sure there is a balance between Vlad's and Talbir's comments and opinions - I'll reserve judgement until I see the car.

MEGA EMBARRASSMENT :o :o :o :o :o :o

Just re-read my post and my terrible sense of humour might not come across at all, at all.

When I said I'm sure Ian would bump some one off, I did not mean chuck someone off the list that was never my intent and the remark is VERY much tongue in cheek because we all know how Ian really likes older Mercedes-Benz.

My personal invite to Talbir is to get an interesting car down to the GTG so that all the kids, dogs, cats etc can crawl all over whatever car he may or may not turn up in.

MEGA MEGA APOLOGIES TO EVERYONE THAT INTENDS MAKING THIS PILGRIMAGE AND THE FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD ROUNDS ARE ON ME.

Yours very sincerely,
John the foot in mouth

Naturally i am biased...but when i read the first post, i wasn't sure whether we were discussing the same car....the description is that far off....i appreciate Martyn was giving a doomsday scenario, but i do not understand why one should make that assumption just because the car/engine 'looks' tired. The comments on sunroof, engine, gearbox were all way off the mark.

But you hit the nail on the head - everyones assessment of the car and it's rating out of 10 will be different as the costs/efforts required to refurb/renovate/restore vary per individual, based on their contacts/knowledge/skills.

I adopted your approach when making my decision to bid on this car...i made up my own mind based on my research. Best way.

Aaah, OK, i misunderstood....i thought 'bump someone off' would be achieved with a sawn-off shotgun !

you softies !:D

Exactly true,

I buy cars day in day out and you wouldnt believe how different opinions of cars can be by two people.

E.g. i know that BAS/ESP means brake light switch = £8-10.. you wouldnt believe how many people get put off by it at auction..

on another token some see minor rust bubbles or bumper scuffs to be the end of the world... it all depends on the resources you have... those along with a bit of knowledge and expereince allows you to make judgements on the subject.

Anyway, i still think you have a bargain...

That was the idea:devil:

But John, he's already asked me for the loan of a pistol to do the "bumping off" ;) - should I not have given it to him?

I trust is was the Gloch 19. :D:devil:

On a different note. Talbir, please add your name to the Pilgrimage thread as there is always an attrition rate of about 10% when organising GTG's. Put your name on the reserve list.............please

Talbir, as i am never likely to ever sit in one these Hammers & experience all that power, due to their rarity, could you put into perspective for me the performance of your car in comparison to say a an W210 E55 AMG....

I say an E55, because on paper aleast they seem quite fairly matched ( I have also been in one of these & was left impressed with its powerhouse performance), both are 4 door saloons, both AMG's, both have big V8's, both have similar amount of cc's, & both have similar BHP (not the same, I know)....

Look foreward to your opinion on this match up, just so i can get an idea of what the legendary Hammer is all about!....

Cheers Dee

Talbir would be nice if you could find time to advise a young man who has inherited a 300SL gullwing from his grandfather and doesn't know what to do with it: -

Auction it through Bonhams, Christies, H&H, not Coys. He could place it on consignment with one of the London dealers but they're sharks & will work both ends of the deal to their own advantage.

I've used Christies for many years without problems but what sort of dodges do Coys get up to ?

Ask Rupert Banner about Coys sale at the Royal Horticultural Halls a few years back next time you speak.
