The perils of SatNav

LOL but... which bit of "Not Suitable for Motor Vehicles" did he/they not understand?

Would this not be better entitled "The perils of stupidity"?

Brilliant.  :D

Not, Suitable, and Vehicle....!!:D

Nothing to do with satnav, but a few years back I got stuck in the storage compund where my caravan lives. The RAC man said "no problem" ... then got stuck himself. He called for a winch truck ... which also got stuck. In the end the guy from the winch truck phoned a mate who was into off-roading, he turned up in a V8 engined monster with lots of ropes and chains and stuff and eventually got us all out :)

That's why I got a 4WD MPV.

When I dropped off Hanz once after a meet, I used the Sat Nav to get home, it was set to minor roads, after driving through farm yards and chickens I eventually saw a TV mast that I recognized I headed for that, its easily done

Those photos were brilliant :D

There needs to be a health warning that pops up everytime you turn a sta nav on

"Road signs trump sat nav directions" :D :D

There actually is. On all Navtech softare (which is on many satnavs) clearly states that follow the road regulations and you have to tick it off.

Yeah but regulations are often very different to road signs ;)

First day I used mine it took me down a 'Green lane'. Fortunately I could turn off after 1/2 mile and it wasn't wet..

That guy was a bit of an idiot to carry on..but when in a rental van.....

At least his 'Ex' had the decency to hide her face in shame...

Before Sat Nav was ever thought of back in the 50's, I did some contract work for an Edgware based firm.

Going to some new flats my little ford prefect sunk in the wet concrete, so I crawled to the rear doors and tied to jump the 6ft to the dry road, I ended up 1ft short and was up to my shins in wet concrete. No phones in those days, so found a phone box and got help, the breakdown lorry was so wide that squeezing past a contractors machine he got stuck in the mud verge, so the second one had to pull him out and then me. I had to go home on the green line coach covered in concrete.

The road contractors paid all of the bills for failing to close off the road

So you cant always blame the sat nav

Every time one of these stories crops up you can clearly see it's a case of "sat nav in the door, common sense out of the window"

If I set mine to shortest route I'm sure it would take me up farm tracks and bridal paths in fact I've looked and it would take me from Yorkshire to London without once touching the M1. but set to fastest route it always chooses A roads and Motorways as much as possible.

Ignoring a road sign like that wont generate much sympathy here.

I read that like he knew he was in for some sort of trouble, he was well aware of the significance of the signs he made a deliverate decision to pass.

Apart from wasting his recovery services resources, it was all good fun.

I bet she reminded herself of the time her parents told her she should stop bringing home all kinds of rubbish and she ignored their advice :D .
