The perils of SatNav

what I find worrying is that idiots like that are actually allowed out on the roads in the first place.

Whether or not sat-nav is involved is largely irrelevant :)

Reminds me of when serving Her Majesty in a far off land. Was called out to do a recovery of a Hi Mac. Went to scene of the incident only to find an officer standing in a bog (not wc  ).

Scuse me Sir, says I, Where is the casualty?

Officer says, I am standing on the top of the jib!!

We wrote it off after unsuccessfully trying to extract it with two Bedford Recovery Vehicles and a Leyland Heavy Recovery Vehicle. Not an easy job to find somewhere to attach a hawser to :o

Isn't this what rental vehicles are for. Ultimate testing...

I once drove a Mini through a flood at speed (50mph) just to see....the water shot up inside the car right up the screen and roof lining...

Oh how we laughed.....:D :D :o

We had already taken it 'rallying' down a snow covered track and lost the front numberplate.

I don't see why people are so critical of him. He knew the chance of what could happen by going up the road. He read the sign and made a judgement.

It was not like he was heading down the road off the sat nav and nothing more.

Yes a lot of people fail to realise that common sense is needed when using a satnave. I tend to plan a route and then use the sat nav to help me on the tricky bits. Use it in place of an A-Z in town etc.

A few months back shortly after I passed my bike test I went a ride to Squires cafe in leeds then over to Bridlington via the A166. Part way down around Stamford bridge there was a diversion for local traffic. It was clear the road was not suiable for lorries with numerous signs saying no lorries. DO NOT FOLLOW SAT NAV.

Any way we turn off on our bikes down some little lanes Then we hit a queue of cars and filter passed to see whats going on. An artic trying to get over a hump back bridge on a sharp right hand bend. No where to turn round so I would imagine the police would have had to close the road to back him out. The driver couldn't speak English!

I`m confused, he mentions it`s a Renault, and he called Renault Assist, but it`s an LDV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just as he couldn't make out the sign, he also couldn't make out the badge....
