A couple of weeks ago i opened the door to get in and there was approx 1" of water in the footwell :( :(
After a little investigation i determined that the right hand side runoff (inside engine bay) was blocked, and duly proceeded to clear it with a long bendy pokey thing: which seemed to help.
I have already replaced the small drip moulding on the LHS bottom corner of windscreen/A Pillar
As it rained last night there is more water there this morning  , so i took out the wheel arch liner to check the water drain mouldings from underneath - cleared a little crud there and the watering can test seemed to pass: the drain water was going out all of the right places.

As it rained again earlier - i went out to check and the water is collecting again: Where can it be getting in????????

I have a tube of Dow Corning and a brush with the intention of sealing the plastic covering along the bottom of the windscreen just in case, but am grasping at straws now......

Any Ideas???
thanks

you reall need an assistant with a hose whilst you watch the water come in through the car... by directing the water with the hose you can track the exact source of the leak...

Thanks Jay,
It sounds like that means adopting "brake light switch replacement pose" again :(

Any volunteers for Hose Duty ??

unless you want me to come round and drill a really big hole in your foot-well? its up to you... inch of water or big odd shaped hole. i know what i would choose!

(choose the hole, im very destructive)

You could try stuffing lumps of dry paper toweling in every conceivable nook and cranny inside the car. Simulate rain with a hose, (if there is no natural rain about) checking the condition of the paper every few minutes or better still have someone monitor the paper from inside the car, The water will quickly soak the paper giving some clue as to the likely location of the leak.

are you joking? this is england!

i had the perfect opportunity for investigation a couple of nights ago, but pi$$ing rain is not as much use as i thought:rolleyes:

PS. there is no sunroof

Swap it for a W210 - should get lots of holes in the floor then    :)

The paper roll did strike me as a good idea WTG Dec :bannana:

I removed the drivers side fuse cover (not sure why at the time) and the padding & fuse tops inside were wet  , i think the water is coming in through the door seal just above the wing mirror but the seal looks fine........

Bring on the blue roll

It could be running down a wire and through the bulkhead, the door seals also look likely as the may look fine but when the door is closed the may be warping, if the paper is blue type as the garages use it gives you an instant indication of wetting as the paper turns a much darker colour/

Did you do Fred Flintstone's car?!?!? :D

no they got that car from skoda!

if it helps my car had a break in before i owned it... anyway, they put the drivers window through and when i first got it i noticed there was a bt of water in the door.

this then had access to the rest of the car. making it wet and damp. we have fixed the probelm now... be put bigger speakers in to make the water feel less dominant over my car and rain somewere else.

(the second part of my story time was completely fictional, but it did sound better thansaying we blocked up a hole)

After much head scratching - i have passed the baton to craig @ GM Services in cov - who will endeavour to bring to bear all manner of gadgetry in search of the offending leak (whilst pulling out the entire dashboard to expose the (stupid, stupid) 2nd evaporator: the only place left that can be leaking refrigerant :(

Will report findings back when he has found it !!;)

On the bright side though - it is the perfect time to get a pre-wire fitted :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

Didnt know you were in coventry! Say hi to Craig and tell him to get his finger out to get it sorted...

I'll be driving his E for as long as it takes to fix starting (hopefully monday) :D so no rush:bannana::bannana:
