None at the moment
Hi, I am thinking of buying a CLK and wondered if anyone would share their experience of them eg things that go wrong and if diesel/pertrol or manual/automatic is better etc.

Many thanks

I have had a petrol 320 for the past 2 y 4m and nothing has gone wrong really. I had a very unusual clock problem early on that required a new instrument cluster paid for by MB but otherwise it has been totally reliable. I have had usual servicing parts including pads all round and one track rod end but otherwise nothing at all. I has been probably the cheapest to run car I have ever had. I drove the CLK yesterday and wondered why I favour my more unreliable and expensive to run SL !

Okay, thanks. How much mileagehas yours done and what was it when you bought it? I'm thinking of getting a 200 Avant Garde but just trying to weigh it up at the moment.

I have had a 200k avantgarde auto from new. Now 9+ years old. Great car. Enough power for my needs. Apart from routine servicing and maintenance it has only needed a new airbag unit for the steering wheel. For a coupe its very practical. Plenty of room for 4. Good boot and the seats fold down flat. Around 33mpg overall. 38-40 on long motorway runs. So far no corrosion. Auto box every time.

Mine has done 83k now and had done about 63k when I got it. I did try a 200k and thought it was a bit slow. Mind you I got out of my Honda S2000 and into the Merc so its not suprising ! I think its too heavy a car for a 2 litre four and the 320 six feels much happier. You need to drive both to see which is right for you unless you are heading for the lovely V8s !
CLKs of all engine sizes and specs are really comfortable and are great long distance tourers.

I have had my CLK500 for nearly a year now, and its been amazing. only a few issues, a new front parking sensor and airbag light needing a new cable under the seat. And of course new rear tyres! The V8 is lovely, smooth and very powerful. You have to be aware of the fuel costs with the V8's I get 16 round town and have seen 28 on a run. If you can afford to run it I would recommend one.

I've a CLK 500 Very quick

My dad had a 208 320 and a 209 320 Very good

My Wife had a 209 220 CDI Very economical - Her all time favorite Car and deceptively quick

All in all excellent no issues - Apart from the Seats with are so boring- No Thigh support at all even on the 500

If I was buying another (its impossible to sell a 500 unless you give them away) then yes BUT an AMG

Classic looking car - Handle well and quite useable

Never got 28 even if gentle

But who cares ? The V8's a bit special !

I have had my C220 CDI Sport with AMG pack for just over a week now, it had 71000 on the clock, but drives and feels like a new car, I am getting around 44mpg on the motorway doing around 70/80 mph.
The only issue with mine is the orthopedic seat adjustment is not working (which I knew about when I bought the car), a job I am looking forward to working on.
As for power, I think this is fine, I had the C200 W204 CDI (136bhp) before the CLK, let me say there is no comparison between the two, the CLK just wants to go. But there again I am no speed king.

all I would say is try to get one with all the bits on, heated seats, parking aids sat nav etc, otherwise they can feel a little under equipped considering the money you have spent on it, this mistake I made with the C200. Hope this helps.

Agreed but they do feel well put together - Nice quality

Well I went for a 2009 clk200 manual as I like to be in control! Its a sport in tanzanite blue and
I absolutely love it. I managed to get 43.4mpg on the motorway over the weekend, best to date. Thanks for your help all.

I love mine, great cars
