Thinking of selling my Brabus C63S

Not at all definitive, but my last kid has now left for uni. I no longer need a car which can accommodate 3 easily, 4 adequately. An occasional 3 seater, for occasional use, which is mainly a 2 seater, will do. I have some 2 seaters for pure weekend fun.

So I am thinking of selling the Brabus, magnificent though it is, and moving into something like a Ferrari Cali 30. (Has to be a convertible).

Has anyone here made this move or owned both?

I’d like to stick with MB but can’t think of a suitable replacement within the brand.

How about the new SL those seats in the back are tiny but depending upon how occasionally you mean, and the size of the people in the front passenger and rear seat are then it may be an option.

If it is then the recent limited edition (in Bodo’s name) from Brabus might be just ticket. I have to say it looks rather lovely, especially for those of us in the right age bracket to find three-spoke wheels appealing!

Personally i think the only place for three spokes on a car is the steering wheel! Those Brabus wheels share far too much DNA (as in any!) with TSW's Phoenix! All personal of course!

@ChrisHGTV Definitely marmite. The beauty of Brabus is that wheels can be changed easily. Homage is too strong a word but the three spoke wheels are inspired by the Brabus (wheel) back catalogue, back when Bodo was at the helm.

Good idea. I haven't driven the new SL. Enjoyed the last ones. I will try one, forgot they actually have back seats like the older ones. Brabus adds power and bespokement but it doesn't add extra sharpness, which is what I would want from a car that is no longer an everyday workhorse.

Good question, I like 911s and keep buying them and then not being quite happy and selling them. 996 TT, TTS, 992C2S being the more recent ones. The GT models are sharper but don't come with back seats or as cabrios - I drove a 992 GT3 touring and liked it a lot. I have been pondering a 991.2 GTS and 997 GTS but suspect they are not engaging enough as low speed rides. In the same way that the C63S Brabus does not feel like the hot rod beast that it is when you are ambling around, very refined.

No back seats so no good for your C 63 S replacement however the Porsche 718 Spyder GT 4 RS has got my attention as it’s an open top “proper” GT product, and is supposed to be razor sharp but slightly softer for road - rather than track - driving. I mention it as you mentioned the lack of an open top GT 3.

I think most buyers will want the 911 instead of the 718 because it’s the original GT product, but I wouldn’t mind flying under the radar with a “Boxster”. I refuse to play games ordering cars I don’t want to get an allocation, and I won’t pay overs out of principle either, so I doubt one will come my way. As my Mom might say I perhaps “cut my own nose off to spite face”!

Assuming you'd look at the 55 or 63 version of the SL, that's Portofino money + Brabus bits on top - which is then pretty much Portofino M money.

They’re a real step up from the DB11 in terms of performance and inside too. Lovely cars. I wish they could have done something more with the rear end to differentiate it more from the DB11. It’s sensational from the front though.

Sounds ridiculous to say but they’re relatively competitively priced too for the car it competes with.

I wouldn’t be allowed to spend much more than the price my own car fetches. I am guessing between 80-90k tops. That’s why I am looking at Cali 30 in terms of Ferrari..Porsche equivalent would be 991.2 or for less money 997 GTS.

With Astons, I only really love the old V12 Vantage which is in price range but no back seats, same with 718.

There’s also a Bentley Conti V8S as a quite different type of car but not quite right for us I think as we just don’t do much long distance touring.

Very nice...somehow I didn't gel with the DBS/DB9 or Virage, I really liked them but for me they were not quite tourers and not quite sports cars, while the V12 Vantage was definitely the latter. And a V12 is maybe just a bit exotic for daily use. But I have friends who love them.
