This Carlsson 'kitted E320 Cabrio has been on ebay (on and off) for a good couple of years now - with the same pics!

It must be a rare beast, but I wonder why it hasn't sold.
Low mileage for year (I remember it was under 90k miles last time it was posted on ebay), electric heated seats and that bodykit, wheels and lowered suspension are certainly the plus points.
Maybe the lack of air con or the R129 SL-Style bonnet would be the problem?
I know if I had the money, I'd buy it tomorrow!

Darren

ETA: I've put C124 in the title, but it's meant to be A124! Oops!

Yea I saw this one a few days back and yes it has been on ebay a few times. Its a real nice car in good condition but the lack of air con really does kill it oh and so does the R129 bonnet conversion. A R129 grill looks good only on a R129.

The front seats look to be retrimmed at some point aswell by the looks of the piping or has the piping just been coloured. Anyone else spotted how the electric antenna is going a tad too high ?

Do agree with you there, but in a sale point of view I would say it not having air con may not attract alot of customers and at that price maybe thats why it has not sold before.

By the way theres a switch accesable to the rear seats where the centre console is what does that do ?

That is for the electric rear headrests

10 grand for this car ... description if bit fishy.6 speed auto box for example .. didnt exist then on mercs, also there is no pictures of engine bay and so on.Why it is Sorn?
Dont get me wrong,it is nice looking car...

Id pay £7.5~8k for it happily, bit the seller isnt budging.

Still with no mileage info ...

If it was built on an 'L' reg ..... there is absolutely no way that it can wear an 'M' plate ....

Unless .....

Its got the dreaded MBZ **** plate  :D

It does look nice , but if it's worth £18 to £26k ( a big difference !! 8 Grand ) then why not sell it for that ?

You'd want to see evidence from Carlsson that the engine had actually been worked on , etc etc etc ...

But , i'm not gonna buy it , so i'll stop picking holes in it .... :o

Hello,

Not my cupa too tricked about and dated I think they look best original and classic but:-

Sorn could be as he says he now lives abroad.

Pictures could be better and more (front headlamp wash out of sync etc) not a big deal but it helps, inside more, boot, engine etc

Looks like he had a bid at 10K but obvioulsy wants more....waiting until winter to increase its price is a strange move.

Difficult to value I guess as the prices must vary all over the place, the right person maybe out there for his car but its finding him or her?

I understand what you are saying, but I would not say the lack of air con is the main or one of the main reasons behind it not selling...

Price would be the main factor, as the owner seems to be stuborn, & the second reason, maybe some of the styling such as the bonnet, & then maybe the pics & ad...

But its probably going to be the styling that does eventually sell this car, as what are the chances of you coming across a similar styled car, for that reason alone the air con does not really matter with this car as the rarity of the 'carlsson bits' far than outweigh the lack of air con.

The guy who ends up buying it will probably be saying to himself, "you can get lots of 124 cabs with aircon but not any with Carlsson written on the back!"...... Hes's right aswell.

Hmmm....here's an interesting one for fellow members RE: this car

I sent an email to the seller asking him if the engine was standard or modified by Carlsson (if so, what has been done to it), and I queried him on the 6 speed gearbox.

He replied saying the engine was modified to 3.6 litres and the gearbox was a special Carlsson 6 speed item.

Now please correct me if I'm wrong, but alarm bells are ringing. Back them Brabus did a 3.6 engine, but Carlsson never did, ASAIK! They did a 3.5 straight six (which was put in the 190E and 300E for sure) and then later did a 3.7 litre (based on the 2.8 and 3.2 24v straight 6). There were two versions of the 3.7, a Carlsson CM37 and a CM37RS with 290bhp and 340bhp, respectively.
And as for gearboxes, W124s had 4 or 5 speed autos, or 5 speed manuals when the facelift came along - it looks in the photos as though its a 5 speed auto.

As I said, please correct/ammend anything I've written here, but I really don't think the seller is telling the whole truth

The car has already sold for £9995 a while back and positive feedback left. I can only assume the winning bidder was in fact a shill. This one rings all the alarm bells....

He has probably put it on for 11k thinking he will get offers around 9k-10k

I don't think the air con is a issue in that. I doubt it would be an every day car and when it was that hot Id have the roof down

.

I can assure you that driving in hot weather with the roof down can be terribly draining and unpleasant at times. In the heat of summer it can be much more pleasant to drive with the roof up and the a/c on nice and chilly.
