Car
E250 BlueEff Coupe
After buying my c220 I swore I'd keep it a minimum of 3 years. I crumbled after falling in love with a E250 coupe at MB Birmingham. Wonder how long this one will last...

Have you thought about going up market a bit and buying a car you actually would like to travel in for a longer duration.

I don't think it's that. I love them when I get them but I'm a marketers wet dream. A change is as good as a rest, right? I'd say a 250 coupe is a step up the ladder, not that I view it as one. These things just seem to happen

There's no such thing, you'll always be wanting.

If you buy what you really want first time, it takes a lot longer before you get that yearning.
My own car is an example of that. I have kept it because I still like it.

What I really want is a C63 and a 18 bedroom mansion. Should I wait until I can afford them before buying a house?

The flip side is that I once kept a new car only seven months because I didn't like it.

Houses are different, they don't lose half their value in three years.

Who (apart from you) said anything about waiting until you can afford an item? You keep changing your car prematurely because it fails to please you...just buy what you want first time round.

Who, apart from you said that it didn't please me anymore? It did. This one pleases me more

It's very rare that one can afford to buy the thing they'd want above all else. In those circumstances people will often go out and get the thing that pleases them most, budget dependent

We like variety and unlike marriage, there isn't a commitment to a car. I have a c63 but I'd like a newer one or a e63. Having said that, I had a ML diesel loan car last two days and unbelievably I enjoyed it. I realised it wasn't the car that I liked but just the change.

What do you drive?

That statement is contradictory. Buying new cars regularly is a recipe for never having any funds.

Lets say you have lost £15k on your car and will do the same again, so £30k in 4.5 years.

If you bought a more expensive/nicer/liked-for-longer car, you wouldn't lose £30k in 4.5 years.

So, rational thought and 5 year financial planning goes into each new car purchase does it? Unfortunately not for me, and I'm sure many on here would agree. If we on here didn't take great delight in what we drive surely everyone would be driving a Kia or a Hyundai?

On an expensive item that is going to lose most of it's value quickly...it should.

You are missing the point.

If you spent whatever you needed to to buy what you really liked long term, you would keep it longer (because you want to) AND have more money for the next one.

I might be missing your point but I suppose mine is that I loved the car I had (every car I've had I've loved) but when you feel like you want a different one you don't always put lots of thought into long term. Maybe you do, commendable.

Once again, that's not what I said.

When I bought my car I intended to keep it 2 years, at which point I went and test drove the new model.
Having had new model cars previously and them always being a heap of trouble, I decided to wait for a year.
The new cars were REALLY bad so I was glad I hadn't changed, but then I just lost interest in changing because I still liked my car.

That was some while ago...

Every car previous lasted no more than 12-15 months so I'm definitely making progress...

Baby steps..

Regardless of the circumstances behind this purchase, your car is stunning. E class coupe is simply a very beautiful, sexy car. Enjoy it and have loads of fun! :-)
