W209 CLK 270 Avantgarde. 53 60k miles

Auto Trader UK - MERCEDES-BENZ CLK 270 CDi Avantgarde

It has the benefits of being what I want and being close to me and low mileage. My concerns are:-

rust..can I be sure it is a galvanised model? 1st reg 08/03, MY2002 (from VIN)

Valeo - still not sure I can recognise Valeo, but I can clearly ID rad, condensor and oil cooler as 3 seperate items. Presumably this means not valeo.

Any views on price? Includes service and 12 months MoT. Tyres fairly well worn. Glow plug stayed on for a few secs after start, then went off.

Only offered £1200 px on 202 C220CDi Estate with 177k miles.

Thoughts appreciated.

I had seen that - very useful. I was wondering if there is any way of knowing for sure in borderline cases like this. If it was registered in Aug 03, it would have to have been sitting around for 5 months or more for it not to be a quarter 2 and therefore galvanised?

It is a facelift model..new style dash. Does that help confirm build date?

Mercedes "model years" tend to run from September after the annual factory break and facelift models tend to first "surface" at the biennial Frankfurt Auto Show AFAIK. Its often a couple of months before these cars enter the supply chain. If you put your Vin in here you should get the exact date of manufacture. Mercedes-Benz Club Russia | Mercedes-Benz / VIN

it gives a delivery date (aug 03) but no build date...unless I'm missing something obvious (wouldn't be the first time)

Doubt if it is a facelift....these only started appearing mid-late 2004....

Steering wheel and dash definitely look like facelift to me.
The facelift model W209 was introduced in 2003; only the cab was left until 2004.

Not sure if this means it is galvanised though...

Ahh....I only have knowledge of the W209 Cab and the W203, both of which had facelift intorduced mid-late 2004........have no knowledge of the W209 coupe.

Does anybody know of a means of checking for galvanising - apart from scratching through the paint. If I did that I think the dealer might me!
