Hi forum,

I currently own a Mercedes C220 navy blue but have always been concerned that it doesn't have a sunroof.

I was wondering what your thoughts would be on cutting a sunroof into the car.

I've seen similar things done on various car modification TV shows and as I've recently purchased a new jigsaw from the local hardware store I'm sure I could give it a go and see how I get on.

In light of the recent hot weather we have been experiencing this summer in London I thought now is the perfect time to get a sun roof in the car.

As I always get the car serviced by Terry at Wayne Gates I thought I could also show him my handy work on the car modification before the next MOT is due.

Has anybody gone about doing this before to their own Mercedes and did they encounter any difficulties with positioning of either the glass or the handle?

A jigsaw will not do it. It will make mess.

You will need a new roof lining, sunroof cassette, over head control panel and some coding. Big ££.

You need to talk to Big Un on here he put a twin one in his :-). And made a first class job

No AC?

Why not have both? I have nothing like fresh air in the cabin and great to just tilt it on fine winter days

Don't let Renault12 of the punctuation gestapo see that Ian - he'll have a kitten ;).

Jig saw is what we use, its fine, no problems at all.
Use gaffer tape on the good part of the roof and it will not scratch.
Cover the hole car in plastic will save time latter this the filings.

Difficult on an iPhone at 36,000 feet to get the punctuation correct. Not sure if the bleary eye sight is down to tiredness or the gin and tonics :-)

I know punctuation is important, it saves lives.

As Zenmans says a jigsaw is fine but use a very fine cut blade. Before you even consider doing anything make sure you can get everything you need to fit the sunroof. People don't realise how much research has to be done before you can start a major project like this. The reason for this is there are many times when you are looking for parts needed but you cant find them as there are gaps in EPC! But if you can find them, having a sunroof is a great retro fit to do..
