Tomorrow's Mod!!

Sport Discs

Thats the ones! Funny I've been thinking about that logo;)

As it's chucking it down at the moment i can't go outside. I do recall the calipers having MB on them with a part number. Are those the ones? originally i recall the C200K Sport Edition came with cross drilled discs, and i think the one previous owner might have changed them to plain due to costs on previous service not sure really but will have a good look in the morning.

Yes the MB sport packs setup is almost AMG expensive hence my mod!

If that's the case would your guy be able to make up a sports set. Must be a lot cheaper that the stealership.

hmm. As long as we know the exact spec and sizes.

Hmm. I thought sport pack had cross drilled discs. Come on sport pack owners!!

Yup! Sports pack discs are bigger diameter and cross drilled. Bigger calipers with Mercedes Benz in white

Re Calipers

My rear calipers (C200K Sport Edition) have the MB logo on them with the following part no: 36/278 F1OD. Don't know if that helps.

Early impressions are very good. The brakes are already bedding in and seem no noisier than the standard discs. I used MB pads as they are the best at avoiding squeel. They feel better than the old ones but of course I'm still avoiding heavy use just for a while. Overall absolutely delighted with the mod both visually and mechanically.

I have the sports pack on my W203 - what am I looking at {price wise}for new pads and discs - and (I know this is like asking how long is a piece of string) when {mileage wise} should they be due for a change?

Mine were 50% worn (according to MB) at 32k miles mainly "A" and "B" roads

Discs ~£70 each
Pads ~£70 set

Calipers ~ £300 each

I've heard of sports sets lasting only 10,000 miles....

I heard that also, that's one of the reasons I took out Service-Plus :)

Having said that as I have no worries about replacement cost I do use my brakes and now at 43k miles they are still looking good. (4k to next service, so we'll see;) )

They certainly are powerfull and no evidence of fade even on the most enthusiastic drives

Interestingly both the Sport and AMG options show the same part numbers for the discs and the calipers!

Very cool

I've been toying with the AMG brake upgrade or the 'Sport Pack' brakes, on my W203 mainly for the aesthetics, cross drilled and grooved as well as the neat calipers. However it is an expensive mod, your approach looks very very tempting. From what you mention also cost effective.

Could you let me know who / where you had this done (assuming they're happy to do more!). PM if you don't want to post the details on the forum...

Are they based on original MB discs?

Cheers :D

You have PM!

Why new calipers?

Just included for info, sorry for the confusion :o

What supprises me is that Sport and AMG are the same part numbers! I would guess the option code would give the different decal on the calipers.

C class AMG brakes aren't that special then?

Would this work on other C classes, older cars for example?
