The PocketGPSWorld Safety Camera Database has been updated and contains lots of new cameras including a new mobile category.

As always you can download this from here or via POI-Sync. Remember to add the new category in POI-Sync for the Mobile Cameras file if you are wanting support for mobile cameras as these have now been split away from the main central GATSO database.

So would you trust the speed camera database enough to recommend I get a TomTom and do away with my Snooper?

It seems up to date, although it doesn't get updated very often. I've even found one camera pocketgps had in its database which my Road Angel didn't (that has since been corrected after I informed Road Angel).

What I don't like is it doesn't know what side of the road you are travelling on, and its not as easy/convenient to leave the TomTom unit on all the time in the way I do the Road Angel.

Yes it does - look for the "only warn if on route setting".

Updated again today...

Includes speed limit info.
Note new install instructions............

Will this only detect cameras if you are running the navigation?

It will only warn of cameras on route when navigating, if you un-check the warn on route option it warns of all cameras in the vicinity, I use it like this when I know where I am.

Only just downloaded the latest database, how are the speed limits displayed/announced? Are there more options to enable this feature?

Err, no.

The new database released yesterday has the speed limits included, read the database and the locations are followed by @40 or @70 etc.

There is also a file with different WAV files and a folder called Speedzoned

Is this just for the TomTom Go or can I use this on my Nav3?

Jimmy - thanks for the info - must be new. Haven't seen this functionality before. Or maybe I am blind.

Thats what I thought - the TTG doesn't have a way of reporting the speed (as far as I know) even though the database has had information for a while now....

PJH originally posted it last night, but does not seem to function with the TomTom.
I haven't tried it myself yet but you could read Podie GPS forum entry here explanation
ie if you want to display the speed as well as the cameras you should install the other set of files.....

Shame they did not give instructions with the SpeedZoned database but I managed to follow those instructions and it works well. Instead of just the camera flashing you get the speed limit flashing along with the normal audible warning. Sadly no .wav file option to give a spoken warning.

I have mine set to warn of all speedcamera POI's even if not on route, so far this has not been annoying as you can see on the map exactly where the camers is related to your position. The great thing is that the databases include redlight camera's and also regular mobile sites.

Having said all that there is one camera warning near me where there is not and never has been a camera, perhaps they are planning one?
