Hi Everyone,
I bought a 56 plate C180 last week and the engine management light came on on Monday. Took it into a nearby Indie called MB tech in warrington to get it on a star machine and they advised that the error was showing too much air in the fuel mix. I didn't get a printout.
They said that one of the visible pipes was loose so they reconnected it and cleared the light. They said if it comes back on they would need to strip down quite a bit down to get to some other pipes nearer to the engine and that this would take around 4 hours. The light was off all day and I did quite a bit of driving. I put some fuel in that evening and it has been back on ever since.
I have a warranty for parts and labour but it doesn't cover diagnosis. I'm loathe to pay 4 hours labour to find the fault having only just bought the car.
Is this amount of time normal for that code? Is there any cheaper solution to finding out what could be causing the issue? Are there any examples of common causes of this fault which I could go to the warranty provider and say it could be this?
Sorry for the war and peace. Love the car. Genuinely a bit gutted that this has reared it's head after a week. In your opinion could I be doing lasting damage by driving it like it is? No noticeable performance issues.
Thanks for your time. I have lurked for quite a while this is an awesome forum.
