Nobody has mentioned the SLR I could die for that car, its sex on alloys.
Oh and I would not take what JC took however tired I was.

gary

yeah - was a good stunt - but I thought the risk levels with how tired he was were totally ignored. Wouldn't like to think I had such a car under me if I was that exhausted

But the poor boys and the bad luck with the boats - made me chuckle. :D

What a Car!

SLR is a total dream car, £300,000 WOW!

I though James May and Richard Hammond would really beat JC this time with the speed boat stunt, RH being sick was funny.

JC was pushing it I think, 600bhp and feeling sleepy bit iffy that.

great show & all that demonstating how fast the slr is ... but there was always a camera car not far away ?? wonder if that was an slr too in order to keep up :D

Yes I was thinking similarly..... Whatever supercar JC uses, the camera car always gets in front. :D

Another point was that of the 626 bhp, 120 bhp is used to drive the supercharger. So that's just 506 bhp to push the car along.
If the SLR was a turbo it would be faster.

I thought it was more 746 with 120 being used to pull the supercharger.

Surely (at a guess  ) that's 626bhp all in, ie after the s/c etc.

Although the s/c uses 120bhp itself, I am sure it would give more return than it uses, otherwise why would it be fitted?

I'm sure it would be less than 626bhp without the s/c? :D

I'm coming around to your's on Saturday Will, we can remove our Kompressors together :p

Moving from Off Topic to General...

maybe I'm the only one but I think the styling of the SLR looks like a big penis. waaaay too much bonnet and not enough body.

great show though. The challenge was hilarious but too scripted and staged.

Totally agree about the disproportionate design.

It's the disproportionate pirce that gets me.

For £300k i could have my perfect fleet - and a nice garage to put them in

Was a bit dissapointed when my 8 yr old asked if I could swap the porker for "one of them, in black though, not silver" - in his defense he had just seen the doors opening - what boy of any age wouldn't be transfixed by those babies

Dead right sir. No point fitting it otherwise eh ?

I'd be happy with just a couple of McLaren badges to go on my car :D

Waste of tax payer's money. Bah humbug. Seriously, I think the program has become more of a weekly stroke to JC's ego, and less about cars.

The SLR did sound awesome though!

It is really a bit like 'Who came first, The Egg or the Hen', regarding the supercharger.

One could argue that without the 'charger' it would be only 500bhp, the charger eats up 126bhp (leaving 374), but increases output by 252bhp.

All parts of the drivetrain absorb BHP, but the supercharger gives back a lot more than it absorbs.

Back on Topic: JC and the Oslo trip film. It's exactly that, a film. To entertain. Top Gear is family entertainment, and not a technical motor show. That is why it is popular amoungst a vast array of people.
My 11 year old loves the feature bit.

Agreed

The Supercharger requires just over 120hp to run. So in theory, there is around 750bhp being deployed however with the torque lost through the crankshaft rotating to twist that sucker, you only get 626hp or so. In a regular exhaust car application, this engine can produce 650hp, (source:AMG) however due to the SLR's fancy side exhausts with multiple airways for cleaning and harnessing the sound of that monster V8, the engine "only" gives out 626hp. Those boxy side exhausts are full of technological features, otherwise such systems are illegal.
