TOP GEAR

Like Phil says earlier, the BBC have made a big mistake in trying to replicate the old three’s chemistry and it just falls flat; I do really like MLB and Rory and they come across as as natural as they can be but the YouTube fanbois choice Chris Harris comes across as a wet lettuce, I found it hilarious that he had the chutzpah to take the piss out of Boycott for talking out of one side of his mouth when referencing the new Discovery when he does exactly the same!

Overall though I agree how, more than anything, the V8 segment could have been so much better; I mean come on - a Mustang, an F-Type SVR and a McLaren should be an open goal but, alas...

The surprise to me at least, that emerged from the EXTRA GEAR program was that the Shelby Mustang 350GT engine unlike its lesser brethern has a flat plane crank. This is basically worth reporting to the un-american activities committee. As every petrol head knows its the cross plane crank with its alternate firing on each bank that gives the AMERICAN V8 its characteristic uneven "burble" exhaust note.
Holy Flat-Plane Crank: We Finally Get an In-Depth Look at the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350’s 5.2-liter V-8
The McLaren 838T engine also has a flat plane crank but the Jaguar AJ 27 V8 has the American style V8 cross plane setup.
Again this is basic car food and drink stuff which could have occupied another 5 minute piece to camera in the main programme . If nothing else it allows the engine to rev to 8,000 plus rpm I begin to suspect the writers of the show have precious little interest in cars. :(

I’m sure that was mentioned in the program.

Hi

I was a bit tipsy as usual on a Sunday evening, but the BBC 2, Top Gear got a 3/10. It was not for me. Too much time out of the UK and that chain car thing with that woman guest.

Having said that, one of the clips they show where one of the presenters falls through the plastic tent, that is funny.

Hopefully, the next one is better.

I will get to watch Netflix/ Grand Tour as our son reckons that's now better.

i watched it and enjoyed it in the most part, i like Chris Harris and his excitement for cars and his driving. watch his top gear stuff on youtube it is more in depth and less TV show.

I am struggling with the Grand Tour TBH , the stuff in the tent could be scrapped as it is just filling for bits between cars. the test with the Kia that May did was completely pointless and they never really talked about the car at all.

The Grand Tour could probably bin off Hammond and no one would notice and get someone new in, he isn't a good driver and doesn't offer much.

Both of the shows have massive issues that need sorting out

Good grief, that was hard work.

I don’t know which is worse; me thinking Top Gear is going to improve or me moaning about how bad it is/has become.

Was it just the camera angle that made CH look soooooooo awkward seated in both McLarens?

Enjoyed Lee Mack but biased as I like him anyway.

Reversing Camera piece??? WHY???

I want a Maclaren.
If somebody will give me £800,000 I will have the P1.
If you can only give me I will make do with the 720s.

Really good episode.

the McLaren piece was very well done and what you want from a car show, great driving and a good comparison against the P1

I’d sooner have 4 720s’s for the price of a P1 though.

Really struggling with the sound of these new cars though. For me the sound is half the attraction. I would substitute a fair bit of that speed for a nicer noise.

Bet you didn’t like the electric bikes then?
Nope...but partly because I've never ridden or got into bikes. My dad should be dead by all accounts so it was never an option. I fail to see the attraction of bikes on roads these days. I quite like staying alive a bit longer.

Not a fan a electric cars yet either. Give me a good old V8 any day [emoji6]
