Hello I am renewing the oil pan, seal and filter on my w124 E220- 1995 Auto Box.

Can anyone tell me the settings to torque down the bolts as I have heard that over - tightening can warp the pan and cause leaks.

Is my understanding correct?

regards

Paul

yes you are correct. off the top of my head its 9 Nm- hopefully someone will confirm.

I have 7Nm for early 722.0 and 722.1 and 8Nm for later 722.3 722.4 and 722.5 gearboxes give or take a Nm. So 9 Nm would be in the right ball park. Some people advocate using a small amount of good anti-seize compound on the bolts during reassembly since there can be galvanic corrosion problems between the steel bolts and the alloy gearbox housing.

+1 for the anti-seize paste such as copper slip or the like.

Thats great thanks; agreed RE the copper slip, its a staple on any of the vehicles I have refurbished.

Thanks again,

Paul
