2010 C63 AMG
It is with great sadness that next Thursday I will be parting with my C63, after 20 months of ownership. All kinds of things have lead to this, mainly getting married last year and getting a big mortgage. I can still afford to run it, but I'd like to have a balance in my life, holidays, doing the new house up, etc.

No doubt I will miss the noise and power, but who knows, maybe in the future I may decide to become an AMG owner again!

On the plus side, I am trading it in for a brand new E250 CDI Sport Coupe 125 Edition in Calcite white. This car will be noticeably cheaper to run than the C63.

As you can imagine I will be thoroughly enjoying my last few days of AMG ownership :)

Do you not think it would be cheaper to keep the C63 and ditch the rest ? (tongue in cheek)

Haha Mr. B that was my attitude before, but since getting married, it's changed my life!

At least you've had 20mths of v8/AMG fun,the 250 diesel is a big step down but the £££'s you save in running costs will ease the dissapointment somewhat...

Yes you're right it's a big step down, but I did test drive one first, and I reckon I could live with it. I was quite surprised actually at how smooth and refined diesels have become nowadays, and lovely pulling power from really low revs. I don't think I'll miss the AMG for my 2-mile commute to work and back, probably will on the motorway!

I think after a month or so you'll surprised how little you do miss it.

Your local petrol station will also miss you.

My previous post of £££££££££££ refers to being skint for many many years.

Apologies if it was received the other way.

x2. I had a V8 X5 before getting a E220cdi. Missed the engine for about 30mins and realised why I bought the Mercedes and never looked back.

i think the merits of petrol v8 and diesel are difficult to compare because they are so different
if you have had a mercedes v8 i think you will miss it

Op I guess you do mega miles ? As buying a new car to replace yours to save money doesn't work unless it's the petrol that's Killing you.

If you do need to save £ buy a 2 year old car or more, I couldn't be more delighted with my 66 month old cl500 ht will have cost me £13,250 one it's made near perfect. However if I was doing 12k + miles a year I wouldn't have considered it

95% of the time, you won't miss it at all. The other 5% will remind you while you bought it in the first place

You'll end up trading up to a 350CDI, hehe.

At times like this it makes me think I struck the perfect balance with my 350, very decent performance and MPG.

Because even I get an itch every so often to possibly trade in for a C63... Then my brain kicks in and says keep the 350!!

You will miss the noise and power of the V8 ... I still miss my M3 but you get used to it. Think of all the money you will save on fuel, insurance, road tax, tyres etc. I am sure you will be back in another AMG in the future. Best of luck.

You have my heartfelt sympathies, and believe me, I know what you're going through.

It wasn't an AMG, but I swapped my V10 RS6 for my E350 CDI estate last year. I decided those days (a few 911s, RS6, RS4, M3, etc.) were gone and that with two children and a mortgage it was time I grew up.

I'm now saving lots of money on fuel, insurance and road tax, but I still miss the noise, sportiness, and most of all the feeling that I'm driving something that little bit special* / silly.

I'm also now constantly on Pistonheads and Autotrader, thinking next year, next year, next year...

;)

*That felt a bit mean saying the E350 isn't special.

gmk666 You're right, I feel like I need to grow up now and put other things first.

My workplace is 2 miles each way. I was getting more miles from a tank of petrol when I was doing 10 miles each way!

I feel like I need to grow up now and put other things first (for a couple of years).

Fixed that for you.
