2011 E Class E250 CDI BlueEFF SE Cabriolet
I have just purchased a 2nd hand E Class 250 SE CDI BLUEFF which was first registered in October 2011. It has 25k on the clock. Before I purchased the car I read an article in "Mercedes Enthusiast" magazine which said that it is imperative that the transmission oil & filters are changed every 3 years or 31k miles to avoid gearbox failure.
During negotiations for the car (from an MB Dealer) I brought this point up but the salesman said he had never heard of that before. I was assured that the car had a full MB service history & was given a printout to prove it.
When I purchased the car & went through the service schedule in the service booklet it states quite clearly that the transmission oil & filters should be changed after 3 years or 50k kms. The service booklet was printed in 2011 - Edition RE: 2011-09a.
I contacted the MB garage with this info yesterday. They have come back to me today saying that the service booklet is incorrect & that from June 21st, 2010 the interval for transmission oil & filter change for my car was increased to 5 years or 125k kms.
My VIN: WDD2074032F146980.
This is my first Mercedes so I am not used to these anomalies. Can anyone tell me which is the correct information?:dk:

ATF is recommended to be changed circa 40k miles, even on boxes that were originally 'sealed for life'

Your service booklet supersedes his bulletin and I would contact MB (via email) and get them to clarify it. Seems like the dealer is trying to get out of it

Thanks Bob6600. Have emailed MB direct.

Received email from MB today confirming that the interval for transmission oil & filter changes has been increased to 5 years or 77,500 miles which ever comes first, for my model.
Faith restored in the Dealer!!

Anyone know if thats the same for a 2011 facelift c200 cdi.

ESS online says 31k or 3 years??

Hi Jimbo,

Email MB at the following address, giving them your VIN:

[email protected]

They replied very quickly.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the useful post Jimbo, I emailed them about my 2011 W221 S350 BLUETEC and they replied the next day stating that my particular car requires 77,500ml oil changes, I also asked them if my car was fitted with the 7G+ box but there reply didn't address that question.

Although I am chuffed about this I was also annoyed that Mercedes Blackpool stated it was due for changing at 32k, and the last owner had it done.

Regards

Alfie

On the subject of Transmission Oil changes, My 2010 w212 with the 722.6 transmission does not have the drain plug in the Torque Converter, so I will have to use the cooler pipes to do a full drain. To the best of my knowledge, the return cooler pipe is the best way to do this, question is which of the two pipes is the return one? From the pic I have uploaded, can any one confirm which pipe is the return pipe? I THINK its the one on the drivers side, which goes high on the side of the box, banjo connection.
Thanks for your help,
Justy,

I agree and quite right that the OP obtained an email that says the oil change time!

But when there are so many anomalies to oil changes depending on who says what ....then why not just change the oil as it does not cost that much compared with the price of the car or replacement box.

The problems i believe are due to the TCU and electrics rather than lubrication and an owner will still get a big bill when it happens!

I bought my 2006 motor with 96000 on the clock but when the box finally gave up the codes via STAR said the fault first happened at 39000.

Due to electrics and not lubrication ........when i had the complete hydro electric plate installed STAR said all worn gearbox components were within tolerance so no adaptions were needed. So that does prove the lubrication is correct to the earlier box oil change intervals.

The 7g and it`s derivatives are great boxes in my opinion and seeing as MB pride them selves in adverts for producing gearboxes for over 50 years i am a bit surprised they haven`t got it right yet?

Mind you if there wasn`t built in obsolescence then we wouln`t get our coffee at the Dealer would we?........that is if we used them......
