Hi All,

I know well that sometimes a trouble shared works wonders, so I thought I’d offer this up and see if the same could be said for a dilemma.

Both these models can be found for around the same money, and until I came across an image of the 220 my mind was made up. I’d had a hankering for an Adenauer for a decade or so and all-but decided it was time to get one until the little coupe sneaked into my head.

The Addy is a beast, and pillarless (four door!) too – even the rear quarter drops out of sight. The two-door, well, there’s something about it, not the least of which is that it looks faintly more usable. You could ’nip’ somewhere in it.

The Addy does look the thing for the Grand Tour, but certainly not inconspicuous.

I’ve been waiting for the weather to improve before I go and drive a couple that are for sale, and hope to be off on the mission next week.

All this said, I might not like either model or simply come to my senses – either of these outcomes will suit my wife!

Meanwhile, if anyone knows of these cars or just wants to chip-in with a thought I’d be pleased to hear from them.

There are a few more images here:

Best Wishes.

Beautiful cars indeed and a difficult choice to make.

Viewing in the flesh may well make the decision harder.

I had the pleasure of an encounter with a fantastic 1960 Ponton. A truly fabulous car. LINK.

Best of luck. :thumb:

there is also convertible sof the same, if u do not mind LHD u can find in america cheaper!

You have to get the Ponton Coupe....a truly beautiful car and I would suspect more enjoyable to drive or could I tempt you with..... which I'm currently selling:devil:

Hi,

Yes, it'll have to be LHD, I think - unless there's something in SA.

The blue one I first saw advertided on a German site from a Norwegian dealer, later to be spotted on a UK site, this just after I'd found its whereabouts in Oregon (10K Eur cheaper, freight and tax taken into consideration).

The other is in Germany, where I think is the likely venue - and they might take px!

I wish this snow would go!

Cheers,

Paul

Ah, Vlad,

That's a beaut and if I was buying American....., but sadly not.

Thanks for the ponton link ringway. I'm leaning further towards the smaller of the two, though I think the soft-top is out of my reach - they're making 100k, now!

The later one almost shares the dash of the 300, ie, plenty of smooth rounded wood, the earlier one was bakelite? I think.

Cheers,

Paul

They are both lovely cars but the smaller one would be the one for me. Having googled more images of it it is a real beauty.

Enjoy looking at them and getting to kick some tyres.

I tend to think that the status of 'classic large luxury saloon' can only been confirmed when you can imagine a Dictator or despot being driven in it.

That award has to go to the very first image:D

Go for that one!!

What fabulous cars . Whichever you choose it will only be , presumably for high days and holidays , so you must view, drive ,decide, and enjoy .What a lovely dilemma !:thumb:

I recently saw a 220 in the flesh and have always loved them - there's a nice one in the film a Single Man... Either have that beautiful sweeping look from the 40's on - wasn't it the 300 coupe originally had the front wing design?

A nice choice to have! Doubt either would upset most posters to own, although would have thought it would prove a difficult choice...

Let us know which one wins! :D

Hi,

Yes, this is the 300s Coupe; serious, serious brass.

I suppose it would be an easy trap to fall into, thinking that one had 'arrived' when one has a car such as that.

Alas, not so - you've got to have your own grass mat!!

That's very aristocratic, you wouldn't get that from new money!

Halfords or a Garden Centre?

Cheers,

Paul

Bound to be some for sale in Essen this year if you can wait until the 30th March

Techno Classica Essen

I'm not a huge classic car fan, I think mostly because I have no understanding of how to maintain something like that. However, that show looks great, and is quite close to me...
