Tyre Pressure Required /Happy Conclusion Found

Hi Guys and Guyesses,

Could any one tell me the pressures for a 285/50/18" tyre that is fitted to a ML55 AMG Please.
I have just fitted some BBS Split rims (Nibal) ML Designer wheels, they are the same size as the AMG wheels of the ML55,that is why i am using them as a referance.

I have looked in the hand book that is in our ML(270cdi) and it lists all tyre and wheel size's that fit all the ML's but no tyre pressures, only that it refers you to a pressure chart that is inside the filler cap opening.

The tyre pressure chart that is inside the filler cap says 30lbs front and rear standard running ,and more pressure to be added if the ML is loaded up 32lbs front and 36lbs rear.

Now if all tyre pressures are the same for all ML's regardless of what wheels/tyres are fitted then i am OK,BUT if there is a differance then i would like to know please.

On 202's (C-class) the tyre pressures are the same as on the filler cap regardless of the tyre sizes. Some people say to run low profile tyres at slightly higher pressures.

You got some then?? Would be good to see pics if you have them matey.

Tyre pressures are more to do with the weight, balance and purpose of the car rather than the wheel or the tyre in use. All MLs will have the same tyre pressures, if you want I can look up the sticker used inside the filler flap on the ML later today but I guarantee it will be the same for every model :)

That is very kind of you Shude, :)

The only answers that the dealership gave me was that the pressure's are in the filler cap flap, and this should cover all models.

If they are all the same for all ML's, as Jimmy has said with his W202 (compairing model range to model range), then i have the tyres set at the correct pressures, :) but if there is a differance then it would be nice to know, and if a ML55 is avaliable or a ML500 with 18" wheels fitted it would be worth knowing please.

Thank you for offering ;)

There are 8 pages of tyre pressure labels!

I'll never work out which is which unless I see some VINs for the vehicles involved :)

To be fair the main differences seem to be Arab/USA/Aussie versions with region-specific data.

Are we talking vast differances in pressure  or just 1 or 2lb per square inch, :) If you need a VIN then mine is for a ML270 not a ML55/ML500 so will it be of any use,as the motor came with 16" wheels as standared,But if you need it i can always PM it to you. :)

No, we're just talking different labels.

The problem is that yours probably says "DIESEL ONLY" on it and the ML55 AMG label probably says "SUPER UNLEADED ONLY" on it. In the catalogue you have a cartoon-style drawing of a label with no other details other than "FOR AUSTRALIA ONLY" or something and that's it.

If you wanted to see the difference you'd have to order the labels ;)

Surely someone on here has an ML55 AMG? :)

The very question i asked, with no responce

We normally have a ML430 in the car park with 20" rims, at the moment it is broken down and awaiting repairs in my workshop. I shall try and have a look at the filler flap.

I will have a look in the wifes flap tonight!!!!!!!!!

Well funnerly enough thats were i have been looking, and there is no referance to 18" pressures  :D :D

Any luck jimmy ;)

Conclusion

Well Guy's

All is sorted Thankyou Shude and Jimmy for your help, :) and Billy for his whit

I have found out that the tyre pressures are the same for the ML55 and the ML270cdi,Like what you guy's said it is down to the weight of the vehicle,If you want a soft ride then the tyre pressures are 29lbs per square inch, anything up to 35lbs per square inch can be used BUT the more pressure the firmer the ride.

Anything over this and you are boardering on over inflation which is detrimental to the ride and saftey of the persons in the vehicle.

This formula is the same for any motor vehicle, with any size of wheel /tyre combination fitted. The only variance with tyre pressures appears to be with the ambiant temperatures and that is only 1lbs per square inch increase/decrease for each 10 degrees of temperature increase/decrease.

May be not, But your Good self and Shude pointed me in the right direction, and all is now resolved. Thanks :)

Incidentally, the front crank pulley had disentegrated on the ML430, took 3 big men and a 6 foot scaffold bar to undo it. It was tight!!

Any idea why this is suggested? I've not heard that before, but my (fast wearing out) Bridgestones are showing the wear signs of underinflation, even though I'm sure the pressures are spot on.

i've got an ml500 and i can confirm that the tyres do indeed have pressure!
